Alright, my 302 is letting me down, and I'm getting bored with the lack of simple gas engine modifications.
I've never ridden in an earlier 7.3 power stroke, so I don't know a whole lot about them but general power stroke info.
I've ridden in the newer 2000+ models, and decided I wanted a 6 speed, boy that low gear is fine. =)
The 2 speed rear differential is nice also!!!
However, I dont think those are available for these years (stock) correct me if i'm wrong.
Alright, here's what I'm looking for, please tell me if I'm dreaming about obtaining.
The only thing that dosn't matter is if its a regular, cab 1/2 or quad.
4wd is given.
I need a 3/4 ton, or 1 ton diesel Truck, with a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission, 8 foot bed, and cablights. (Cablights are so important)
I know i can't have my wonderfull independant front susspension i so enjoy on my 1/2 ton, or can I? I'm not going to be plowing with this truck, I just want to upgrade to diesel. And a desil swap is out of the question, I dont want that much work, and my truck is ready to be traded out to somebody who needs a nice, well, i guess the best way to put it, a good introduction truck.
your not dreaming at all. f-250 had the TTB front suspension but be warned it doesn't ride well and doesn't like the weight of the diesel on it. I would go a F-350 but thats up to you. there are many body styles 250 and 250 both come in regular cab long box, 250 also comes in extended cab long box or crew cab short box. the 350 also offers a crew cab long box but no short bed or extended cab version.
cab lights are easy to install if you find just the right truck without cab lights. the superduty cab light look excellent of one our trucks.
the 250 springs are actually thicker and stiffer than the one ton because of the twist that is put on the springs by the TTB. its up to you though. the TTB dana 50 can be a good axle but it takes an expert alignment tech and some time. also requires religious tire rotations every 5k miles.
Also I tried to join the MI chapter once and haven't heard anything. maybe I did something wrong. I will try again.
the 250 don't have radius arms but the leaf springs locate the axle but the leaf spring bushings do wear out. and the ball joints need to 100% on these heavier trucks.
oh the TTB's on the 250's are leaf springs? not coils? No wonder they sag. If i'm going to have leaf springs on my truck, it better be solid front axle.
i like the performance i get from my TTB, (whatever that stands for i duno still)
Takes a bit more work though.
I can see why they have problems aligning them if they are setup like that. Radius arms make that setup possible.
They runnign floating rear ends in most of them, or can i expect a 9"?
What they putting in for the fronts? those are 40's or 60's?
250 and 350 rears are sterling full lfoating 10.25 ring gears. very good axles. the front of the 250's are dana 50 TTB(twin traction beam) and the front of the 350's are dana 60's both fronts are leaf sprung
Sounds like it would be a fun project to take the 150 body of your choice and put a diesel in it frame up.
unforuantly, i dont have that kind of time or money. =*(
