True or False
The diesel psychosis and the foreign-truck psychosis are very similar in that MPG ratings are usually inflated.
I personally know a few Infiniti, Honda, 'yota and a few other makes, that when you really get them to admit it, are no where near what I hear on the Internet.
My sister and her daughter each have an Infiniti (Nissan) SUV - small V6, too.
They get FIFTEEN miles per gallon on the HIGHWAY.
I laugh all the way to the pump when I'm carrying 1000lbs in the bed and doing 75MPG and still get 16.
But that's just me.
I've never seen that kind of mileage out of mine. Right now I get 10mpg. If I'm lucky I will get 11mpg. I drive between 65 and 70mph. Do you have a 3 valve? I'm just wondering if that makes a difference. Mine is an 03, and I am running 285 tires and I have a camper shell. It just baffles me when you guys say what kind of mileage your getting out of your 10's. Like I said if mine was doing that I may just keep it. But the cold hard fact is it's not.

But the cold hard fact is it's not.I run stock-sized Cooper AT 265/75R16's (original were the 235/85r16). At 65 lbs front, and 75 rear (when loaded - this makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in loaded MPGs).
I do not have a 3-valve, I have the 2-valve.
When I get 16+ mpgs, I am driving 250+ miles one-way, with the wife and kids in the car, and I use EZPass, so no toll booth stops. I drive 75-80MPH as traffic permits. I have the 3.73 gears. Not too many hills, but when I get into Upstate NY, there are a few grades that take a lot of pedal to keep highway speeds. But they aren't very long. Max altitude where I go is around 2200ft.
I try not to lay into the gas too much, but if I have to, I do.
This has been hand-calculated over the past 5 years I've owned this truck, since new.
I've gotten as low as 4MPGs stop-and-go, but that's a lot of foot-planting, and it's cold outside (below 20F) and lots of idling to warm up in the morning.
Buy a $2500 brand new Honda Rebel motorcycle and ride the 65mpg bike 3 days a week to and from work-----the bike will pay for itself first 4 months... you get utility of giant safe truck for what is is capable of for the manditory family camping and sight seeing trips all over that beautiful state and the fun of good biking weather most of the year... BSEG both ways.....
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts

A feature that made me choose full-face...
Take your $2500 and buy a real motorcycle. One that can at least get out of its own way and is large enough to be seen by others.

I am driving with the camper shell on. This isn't a slide in camper, just the fiberglass topper. I wanted to clarify in case you thought I was talking about a slide in. My mpg didn't change when I put it on. It has stayed the same.
What doesn't help is having the front end locked for most of the year. Here in Alaska my hubs are locked from Oct-April easy. The roads are not the greatest in the winter here. But once the snow is gone it still doesn't make any drastic changes.
I am running BFG AT 285/75R16's. And they are aired to the proper psi. I roughly drive about 45 miles a day during a 5 day work week. And I have to fill up once a week. Right now it's costing me about $65 to 70 to fill my tank. With my old 5.4 F-150 I would fill up once every 2 weeks. Even though the tank is bigger on the V10 I could go longer on a tank of gas with the 5.4
I realize what you guys are saying about what it will cost for a new vehicle. I have thought of buying a beater for the daily driver, but then having 3 vehicles and insuring them with Cali prices....wow! The motorcycle route is something to consider. I have never rode a street bike before so that would be a new experience. But I will keep it in mind.
What I have been thinking of doing is driving my wifes Jeep Grand Cherokee (which is paid off and averages 17c and 20.5h) and making that my vehicle and getting a new minivan for her and the little troops. For what they are selling minivans up here for with a down payment I would probably only be financing about $9,000 @ 1.5%. Those payments would be pretty low. So, I would still have my 4 doors and my 4X4 and better mpg. Thoughts?
Then if need be trade the SD in on an F-150 screw. If you lose the truck, you'll miss it and you'll need it and not have it.
01 F-250 SCSB, V-10, 4R100, 4x4, open 3.73s, 285/75/R16 BFG MT KMs
one 12" Infinity Perfect Kappa
Bad trade off in my opinion. The 1/2 ton is soon to be gone and a new V10 F250 is on the way.
