New Muffler Question?

Pretty much just going to buy the muffler from the 16614 magnaflow system. Going to go with the 14" but what size in/out? Is it all 2.5 or is it 3/2.5?

Any difference between the satin stainless or polished besides the finish?

I've got the 16614 SIDO system, I believe it's 3/2.5.

So is the cat to the muffler 3"? I've read we have 2.5" stock pipe but yet the muffler in the 16614 system is a 3" inlet. I'm very confused. Will it be a problem for my shop to go with a 3" pipe between the cat and muffler then 2.5 duals out the rear?

your pipe that looks like a "y" leaving the cats is 3"...it then necks down to 2.5" on the outlet of the muffler. this is why the magnaflow muffler has a 3" inlet. their kit supplied a piece of pipe about 1 1/2 ft long that attatches to the "y" section, and then their muffler connects to that. all of that piping is 3". after it goes through the muffler, the magnaflow muffler necks down to 2.5"

you should have no problem fitting this muffler. your shop will have to install at least 2 feet of piping to make-up for the huge OEM muffler. that thing is about 3 1/2 ft long.

how much is your shop charging you to install this? if your paying more than $450, I recommend you just buy the entire Magnaflow single in, dual out kit. there is no fabrication to be done, and it fits up really well. I've got it installed right now.

Priced them last year and were going to charge around 200. Not sure if that was stainless though. Stainless Muffler and 2 tips will run me around 170 so will still be 200 less than buying the system because I would have it installed. Stock pipe on truck now stainless?

Also I could save 20 bucks on just the muffler by getting the satin stainless instead of the polished. Noone is going to be able to see it so why spend the extra money? Any difference in sound?

Most likely that price they quoted you is for aluminized not stainless.

"Your pipe that looks like a "y" leaving the cats is 3"...it then necks down to 2.5" on the outlet of the muffler..."

Nope...the pipes from the cats are 2.5" dia.merging into a single 2.5" collector. The aftermarket stuff is 3"...the 3" pipe between the factory merge and the muffler reduces to 2.5" where it connects to the factory pipe(s) from the cats.

I have a SISO Flowmaster on my 04 FX4 5.4...I installed it myself, so I am familiar with the system.

Well I put in an offer for the 16614 system. Guys were getting them shipped for around 375..... Now the question is Do I go with that or buy seperate and have the shop install the piping. Will the 18" muffler be loud enough, or should I not get the system and get the 14"?

loud enough

About a mo ago, I had the Mag SIDO hung on my '05. Pipes, SS muff, SS tips and labor came in at 5 bills. Prob a little steep, but was working a lot of hours, so had them do it. Muffler has good sound, cant hear it at idle, or on the highway, but from a dead stop with your foot in it, it comes alive. Course that CAI drowns half the exhaust sound out.

check the "y" section again. I'm pretty sure the collector is 3" that the muffler necks down to 2.5". I'd check mine to verify, but it's raining cats and dogs right now. my aftermarket is all 2.5" piping with 3.5" tips

I don't see how a shop is gonna only charge you $200 for this. if they do, jump all over it. for your truck to be converted to dual exhaust, you're going to need about 8 feet of piping, bends in that piping and the labor for the guy doing the install. I'll bet that $200 they quoted you was just to install a new muffler and keep all the factory single piping.

I was quoted $350 just to cut out my mufflers on the Mustang and weld in 2 Magnaflow mufflers. no extra piping or anything else.

The pipes and merge collector are both 2-1/2" dia...my Flowmaster cat back SISO exhaust pipe (the pipe that goes between between the merge and the muffler) is 3" dia. It necks down to 2-1/2" at the connection between the "Y" and the exhaust pipe. The muffler and tail pipe are both 3" dia.

I think the quote was for aluminized steel not SS. I was buying the muffler and tips seperately online.
