2001 F350 auto, 140,000. Fuel filter supposely was just changed - If not where is it and where is the fuel bowl - I am not very versed in the PSD. I can hit the fuel pedal it will rev up, when I let off it dies. I may take it back to the dealer tomorrow and drop it off, maybe even put a hold on the check until he fixes it. Any help is appreciated.
Here's a picture I borrowed from another member. List all the major parts. Keep in mind that yours has a plastic cover plate over the filter and fuel bowl, unless it has been removed like this one. It is in the centel of the engine towards the front. I don't think it is your filter. That should stave your engine during acc. and not let off. Might have to wait until the smart people return. Again, thanks to the original publisher of the photo. I think it was either Kris or Alan.
Thanks ZX this will come in handy. Is the fuel bowl inside the filter assembly? this thins is really a pain. Truck would not start this afternoon for awhile, now I started it and it has been idleing for about an hour, I can rev it up etc. no issues. But I know if I shut it off, it will either start and die or not start. I hope someone can help me.
The filter is in the fuel bowl. The lid screws off of the fuel bowl/filter assembly and the filter is below. Be sure and open the drain valve on the back of the bowl to drain fuel off. It is a yellow lever that you turn to open. I really think you have another issue other than fuel going on.
Here's a coulpe of pictures from amiller93 I saved for future use. So he's the one to thank for these.
The HPOP is the rectangle metal box in front of the fuel filter assembly. After it sets for a night or several hours, take the plug out of the top and see where the oil level is. It should be 3/4 to 1 inch below the top. If it is more you have a problem. Where did you get you CPS??? The reason I ask is we have had several members use NAPA, AutoZone, Orielly's and other aftermarket CPS and there problems came back soon or never went away........
Got it at an International dealer in Omaha. Is there anyway to test them? Truck has been idling for over two hours now. It seems like as long as I do not shut it off it would run until out of fuel. It is when I shut it off and try to start it 30 minutes later that problems start. I just shut it off. I will let it sit for about an hour and then check the HPOP to see. And then try to start it.
Don't know of a way to check CPS. It should be ok. A HPOP that is leaking down will make it hard to start until the low pressure oil pump replaces the oil that has leaked out. How is your oil level? Do you know how long it has been since the last change? And last, do you know what kind of oil was used? These engines are very particular about oil. If they don't like it, they won't run.
I have no idea on the oil change nor what kind. Just went on and check the HPOP oil, it was maybe 1 inch from the very top of the resy. Tried to start truck, ran at idle, hit the fuel pedal, reved up and promptly died.????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????
Is your oil at the proper level? Is the dealer where you bought the truck familar with diesels and did they service it prior to your buying it? If they are a Ford dealer, then they should have a way to scan for codes. If it is killing the engine, maybe there is a code stored.
