reservoir stripped

I was removing the Pressure Sensor from the HPOP reservoir and the threads came out with it. Also may have the same problem with the access plug, as it won't come out. Any good fixes for this other than Helicoils?

Thanks for the response Plowhand, but I'm trying to avoid the $200 for a new one if possible.

I think its pipe thread. I don't know if they make helicoil's for pipe thead or not. if not and it is pipe thread you can remove the reservior drill it out and tap for the next pipe size up. then install a pipe bushing and reinstall the sensor

TJ is bang on the money, just remember to use a little teflon tape when you install your new pipe bushing

the threads are -4 oring boss. dont use teflon tape on the sensor it wont work if you do. it needs the metal contact for the ground. just use a little oil.

you might be able to run it out to -6 and find an adapter from a hydraulics shop. the top of the res isnt thick enough or strong enough to make it pipe thread plus pipe thread will leak since you cant use thread sealants.

if you know someone that can tig weld you can weld a plate ontop and tap it for the -4 and put the sensor back in. but since its some wierd press cast aluminum i dont know if you would be able to get all the oil out of the pores to weld it or even if that cast will weld.

Got it fixed, used an EZ lok insert by drilling out the hole threading and inserting. had to cut off and polish the EZ lok to match the surface , then drill down slightly to allow for the O-ring but it works fine and won't strip out again. The ez lok has a 5/8-11 external thread and 7/16-20 internal.

Question

OK you used the 651-19 EZ lok insert, but how did you fix to the reservoir, any kind of glue or what, an do you have any leaks? And what happened with with the access plug, was the same size?.

Thanks

The ez lok has a form of red loctite that they claim once installed will not move without applying a couple hundred degrees to it first. There are no leaks apparent so far (ez lok claims 6500 psi on their part) and the access plug is the same size but I got it out without damaging the threads.
