I have a thread about a steering box leaking but it doesn't seem to be the box after all. It looks like it is coming from the pump itself. Has anybody had a power steering pump that leaked?

A better question might be, "Has anybody had a P/S pump that did NOT leak?"
The plastic-bodied or 'C-II' pump (corporate pump no.2) was introduced in '78 in spite of repeated durability test failures; it was already at design-level 6 when the '78's launched - indicating 5 iterations of defective designs up to that point!
If you could figure out how to do it, the older metal-canned pump is far more durable, and has better low-speed output to boot.
OK, so I got a new pump from NAPA and went home to install it. No biggie, right? So I have the pump off, and the water pump is wide open and staring at me with 99k miles. Couldn't be a better time to replace it. So I am taking it off, no problem, get down to the last stud, and it's stuck. Rounded off the bolt head trying to get it off. Tried every type of vise grip etc. on the stud but no luck. The threads are galled in the block. Ended up sawing the bolt and part of the pump with a Sawzall to get it off. Have to have the truck towed to the shop on Monday to have the stud removed, may as well pay the guy to put the rest back together as I can't see having it towed back here for me to assemble after work. I AM STARTING TO GET SICK OF @#$%*& BRONCOS!!!!!
