I tried to drain my water separator but nothing (diesel or water) comes out when I pull up on the ring. Could the drain be plugged up? The water in fuel light goes out when it starts so I am not suspecting water in fuel.
I am still having problems with air. I have changed the 4 drain lines on the passenger side and disconnected the line back to the filter. I still have to change the other 4 lines and o-rings. The o-rings that I changed were hard and old.
are you sure you still are using the stock separator? I did that on mine when I got it too, and mine had been converted. If your fuel filter has a bowl on the bottom and doesnt look like an oil filter then you have been converted. If that is the case, there is a unscrew thing at the bottom of that bowl on the filter, unscrew, it until water and or fuel comes out.
I still have the stock separator. The fuel filter has no drain, I replaced it with a new one. I don't think I have a water problem. I wonder if that separator could be a source of air. It is sure hard to see down in there. Thanks guys.
Had the same problem with my `87 F250. Not only would it not drain but it was letting air in causing hard starts. I bypassed it and now just change filter more often. No problems since.
You can get a bowl type filter for the 6.9's but good luck finding them anywhere besides the internet, that is my current problem and im running no wfs right now. Only reason im not is cuz I drained my whole tank and refilled it so it has NO water in there. I think you can get it for like 67 bucks at intellidog.com its on the dieselmann page. tom, what year truck u got, it might be a good idea to put your year ad engine model in your signature so we know what motor your talking about, ex. see my signature.
I changed the rest of my return lines and bypassed the water separator. When I bypassed it I put a piece of clear tubing in the line and there are no air bubbles. I also put a clear tube from the filter elbow to the return lines, no air showing there either. I still have a flutter and smoke at high rpm, no change. I am going to try preasurizing the line from the water separator bypass to the lift pump and look for leaks. I did get air from the shraeder valve before I bypassed the water separator. I think I might run a clear line from the shraeder valve to the return lines and see if air shows up there. I can't put clear lines from the lift pump to the filter or from the filter to the IP untill I get some fittings.
