so the rear leaf brackets on my 96 are completely rotten. they're so rotten they are about to snap. so i stopped @ nappa to price the new ones and they don't sell em. WTF. you would think if ford used sh***y steel for the part they could at least make it availible through the parts dealers. instead i had to stop at the local ford garage and they said they wanted like $55 a piece! so apparently im gonna be in a bone yard grinding some old ones off this week end. i love my truck but sometimes i would like to choke some people at the company!
Bad break.....but up there in the salt it's hard to get any steel to last.....been there....lived in toledo a long time.
Try some of our sponsors up at the top.....might get the new ones from them for about what you'll pay at the boneyard.
Good Luck
The ones at bone yard will probably be no better. there are several places to get after market check out our supporters . All it take to make them last is to remove paint when starts peeling and repaint. I did it all my trucks the last one had no body left but mounts where good.
i take it this a 4x2, THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE as these trucks are getting older its very typical, 4x2 more than 4x4 , this is also where preventative maint comes in, you see them getting that bad, fix or replace them before they snap .
So you are gonna do twice the work to save $25.00? Don't make much sense to me especially because of how hard it is to get the factory rivets out. Buy new your labor is worth something

I have a 94 and I had the same problem. the combination of the road salt they use here in CT and the fact that the previous owner launched his boat with it did it in. I went to Ford and got the parts and had a garage put em on. thats ur best bet. if ur gunna go to the junkyard to try to get the parts, u might as well leave the stuff on that u have now, cause it wouldnt make much diffence. when u buy the parts new, u arent wondering "well, gee, I dont know if the previous owner drove it through in a state that uses road salt, constantly overloaded it, or if the fruch was used as a plow truck or as a boat launching vehilce at a marina". atleast u know that new parts havent been comprimised in any of the above ways.
, a f53 is fords class A motorhome chassis, some manufacturers use them also for swat team truck chassis,,,,they were made in Monterrey Mexico by Ford until recently i think in Canada now,,,
lol i snapped a leaf spring on the way home from work today. i've had good luck with rockauto.com for parts. shipping was $$$ for them though. i'll try local first.
I've had to replace these on both my old `91 2wd and now my newest `94 4wd. It's just a design problem (sort of). The way they are shaped, water/dirt/road salt/etc just sit up in the valley of the hanger and eat right through it. As for replacing them, the "ford garage" you talked to is jerking you around. I think I paid $35 for BOTH sides for my `91 a couple years ago (the `94 came wiht new ones as they were already broken when I bought it). Granted, that was "shop cost", but they still shouldn't be more than $50 or so for the pair. But get new bolts and nuts too (the long one that goes through the spring eye) as your old ones will be rotted to hell also and you'll probably need to cut the head off to drive them out. Both hangers, bolts and nuts should be under $100 total. My dealer even had them in stock.
