For the cd player, I would say get something that has an eq that has high, mid, and low adjustment. Not just bass and treble. On your amp, make sure it is bridgeable, and don't just look at the max wattage, look at the rms amounts. That will be more what you are going to be using. The "advertised" amount is usually max and if you go for that your amp won't last very long. Mine is set at about 3/4 gain so that I counldn't hit max if I wanted to. Good luck!

 

theres nothing wrong with pioneer, Ive had a pioneer DEH-1300 and just installed a alpine CDE-9852 with no problems. I would suggest looking at the alpine I mentioned because its i-pod compatible and its last years model so you can find it cheap.

 

thanks any suggestions on speakers, subs, and amps. also should i get an amp for my speakers as well as subs. if so would i be able to get a 4 channel to run all of them or get a one channel for the subs then like a 2 or 4 channel for my other speakers.

 

I would start by installing just a head unit and speakers and seeing how you like it. I would guess 90% of the people out there are perfectly happy with a setup like that. If you still want more after you get that done I would add and amp and sub, then if you still want more add an amp to the main speakers.

A lot of us around here that help guys out really appreciate sound quality and different features and sometimes we forget that a lot of people out there aren't as picky as us and don't need to go all out on thier system.

You mentioned wanting to be able to hook up to an iPod in your first post. I would probably suggest either an Alpine or 2007 model Kenwood with the USB iPod control as they are the easiest (and cheapest) ones to integrate with an iPod. Another feature you may be interested is bluetooth integration. If you have a cellular phone with bluetooth capabilities you can setup your stereo to mute when a call comes in and allow you to listen to the call over your stereo speakers and talk into a microphone that you install in the vehicle. This is especially handy if your area requires the use of a hands free device when talking on the phone in a car. If this is something that interests you let us know.

 

like Beerstalker said you should just start with the deck and speakers and then mabey go with a 10" sub and a decent amp. You should probably look into a shallow mount sub (pioneer, premier, rockford) because by the sounds of it you don't have to much room. A four channel amp for the speakers seems like a lot to get into, and could wait until you know exactly what you want from your system

 

well im not really into the whole blue tooth thing. i use my cell phone about twice a month. i do want a ipod capability as i want to get a ipod soon. i have kinda wierd taste in music. as far as building it up after time i would rather just do a nice system now instead of patching it in later. my 59 is a ground up rebuild/restomod. i think ive pretty much decided to go with a alpine deck but the rest is still to be determined. so could one amp run two subs, and four speakers.

 

well ive done i little looking and gonna put these choices out there for your opionion. i pretty much decided on a alpine cde-9873 for the head unit. for subs i came up with, rockford fosgate p28s4, jbl gto 804, polk/momo mm 2084, kicker comp vr 07cvr84, and rockford fosgate p2d48. these are all 8inch subs under a 100 bucks on crutchfield so im hoping for any and all opionons on which of these i should use and why. im sure ill be back later with some possible speakers and amps. thanks immensly guys for putting up with my questions and helping me out.

 

That Alpine sounds like a nice unit I am sure you will be happy with it. I would probably go ahead and buy the iPod adapter cable with it so you can just install everything all at once and then buy an iPod later. You can actually route the cable to wherever you want since you will be controlling the ipod from the radio. You might think about putting it in a glove box or something like that so you don't accidently leave the iPod sitting out in plain sight when you run in the store or something like that.

As far as subs go that is hard to say without some more info about how you are mounting them. Are you going to build a box yourself, or are you buying one? If you are buying one you should find the box that you want and then pick a sub that will fit it well. I would think in a truck like yours it is going to be hard finding places to put them.

Same goes with the amp. You should wait until after you figure out what subs and speakers you will be using and use that to figure out what amps you should look at.

 

im planning on building my own boxes so i was just looking at some possible choices. i was wondering whether there was some specific advantages over the others. i was planning on picking an amp after my subs and speakers but im sure ill have several choices to pick from. i think i can find places to put them, if i can swap in a dodge 5 speed i think i should be able to invent some space to put two subs. hopefully anyway. thanks agian.

 

You can mount speakers in the doors; there's those convenient removable panels in the door. I cut a sheet of plywood the same size, then covered it in black vinyl cloth, and made an enclosure to go behind the speaker that just fit below the window channel thing. It does get wet in there, so if you do that, use waterproof glue, maybe marine plywood or plenty of paint to seal it.

It should be possible to fit a sub cabinet under the seat, if you remove the seat-adjustment wire thing that runs from one seat rail to the other. But, if you have bucket seats, it would be easier to build a console between the seats and put the sub in there. Or, if you're comfortable with sheet metal bashing maybe you could recess the sub into the floor. Although if you're gonna do that much work, maybe stuffing a gas tank under the bed would be a better use of your time.

As for what drivers and amp to use, whatever you can pick up at the swap meet or a yard sale that works (and isn't Pyramid). The JL Audio 10W1 seems like quite a nice little sub if you can find one; I believe they've been discontinued. Nice excursion, good response in a smallish sealed box.

 

thanks i was planning on putting the subs under the seat. i pretty sure i can make them fit with enough if it dont fit get a bigger hammer.lol. im planning on building my own headliner so i figurerd i could build the speakers into a custom headliner. are profile amps of decent quality. how bout polk speakers.
