T-18 overdrive

I just got an '86 Bronco with a 300 straight six and four speed tranny. Trans code F - the T-18. With the 3.55 rear end the engine figures to be spinning ~2,800 rpm at interstate speeds.

Is there an overdrive 4th gear available for the T-18? Something in the .73 range?

I've heard rumors of a 5 speed in mid-late 80's Broncos, I've got to think they're pretty rare and pricey. Are there any easy bolt-in options to get an overdrive gear for the highway?

Thanks.

The Mazda M5OD-R2 was available '88 on with the 300 and 302. F-250+ and some 88-90 F-150 300's got the equally strong as a T-18, (if not more), the ZF5-S42.

You could bolt in either if the tranny came from a 300/302/351w.

Thanks for the tips, with a couple of model numbers I was able to search up a ton of info.

The ZF seems to be the preferred swap because of its increased strength and granny gear. Is there much difference between the S5-42 and S5-47 from a bolt-in standpoint?

The M5OD-R2 was factory installed '87-on F150/Broncos with the 300 or 302, right? Since I don't plan on pulling anything more substantial than my fat butt - and the M5OD seems to be a lot easier to find and cheaper - it may be just the ticket for now.

Supposing I do find a suitable donor vehicle/tranny at the junkyard, what other parts will I need to scavenge to complete the swap?

Thanks again.

As far as I know the 42 and 47 are identical cases, just beefier internals.

M5OD-R2 was 88+ with the 302 and 300, and '97+ with the 4.2L and 4.6L. The 4.6L has a different bell pattern so you can't use that one. Not the greatest for high horsepower motors (basicly the insides get twisted out), or for big towing (I've done it with low range to get 15k lb trailers movin and parked), but just fine for a stock motor daily driving. Absolutely love it with the '92 302 and dad's '97 4.6L.

Because you have the master cylinder and pedals already with a hole in the floor for the shifter, your purdy much set. I'd get a new slave cylinder and line while your down there. Sorry also I don't know the length of the T-18 to tell ya if your driveshafts will need to be lengthened/shortened.
