Question how much?

finally need to change oil on my truck. motor is fe360. in the owners book, it says five quarts with the foot note add 1 quart with filter change, making 6 quarts. in Ford 1971 shop manual, it says 6 quarts with footnote add 1 quart for filter change. never heard of stock pan holding seven quarts. So is 6 quarts total with filter correct? also am adding quart of MM oil to help with sticking valve. any drawbacks to this

It also depends on the length of the oil filter you use. I run a Hastings 426 that is 7" long and holds a full quart.
Standard filters do not hold one quart they are less.
I always ran 6 1/2 quarts in the old 360.

Why don't you just do an oil change, add 5 quarts then find out what it takes to top off?
My motor takes 13 1/2 quarts the last 20 years with the said above filter.

Sticking valve?
If it's an intake you will pop thru the carb, exhaust valve you'll end up burning a valve.
Do you mean a noisy lifter that started to make noise?
If so do a oil change, add a lifter additive then drive the snot out of it unless you have other problems developing.

do have a lifter ticking on passenger side. dont have any popping through carb now, however do have one cylinder not firing on drivers side, second one back. changed plugs and wires, getting a miss on that cylinder. pulled plug and grounded it and am getting a crisp blue spark. put plug back in, and still miss on that cylinder. truck has been setting several years, so i figured stuck valve. dont foul any plugs, dont use oil, and does not smoke. just misses on that cylinder. am going to tear it down this summer and put all new gaskets on, and check valves. just trying to prolong it, and thought the MM oil might help, but dont want to mess anything else up experimenting.

Any compression on that cylinder?
Easy things first like pull the valve cover and see if that valve stem is lower than the rest.
If so soak it from the top with penatrating oil and tap on it maybe it will work loose and come back up. Makes one wonder about that cylinders bore, valve and seat condition like rusty and wasted.
This will also allow you to check and see if that clacking lifter is stuck.

Question Check your pushrods

Pull that rocker cover and look for a bent pushrod(s) on that cyl. I have had more that one FE that will do this after setting. The old varnish-gas will stick the valve and the rod bends. the bent pushrod will sound just like a ticking lifter.
