I am sending out this warning to all. Never, ever wait till spring to rake your leaves up! This is the first time I have done this, and will be the last. Last fall I was busy doing some home repairs, so my neighbor offered to blow all my leaves into my flower beds. "Great" I said, at-least it looks presentable. Well, needless to say, I never got to them until now. What happened was, all my plants just loved that warm blanket and decided to do their thing earlier than they were supposed too. Picture 15 in. of leaves and me on my knees trying to finesse the leaves out, without breaking the plants. 33 bags later and a very sore back. I have learned my lesson. For the first time in my life, I envy apartment dwellers. OK! I got over that last sentence.
I don't bag the leaves that takes too long. I sweep them in a pile with the blower, then rake the pile of leaves onto a big tarp.
Once they're on the tarp you can drag the leaves out into the woods or your compost behind your house. Or put them in your truck lots of places you can get rid of them. Putting them in bags takes too long.
When I lived in Oregon I liked to blow the leaves in a pile and have my slaves, uh sons bring them to me in the wheel barrow. Or if I was being merciful I would take the shredder to the pile. Then I put them thru the chipper shredder. A garden trash bag of leaves turns into maybe a bucket full of nice fine mulch which you can either spread around gardens without leaving a thick layer or take to the dump without filling several trailer fulls. Or you can compost them for some splendid mulch next year.
We used to get 2 feet of leaves spread out all over the yard. It took all day to shred them but after that there was no more fuss til spring.
