I don't remember the weight right off, but the 79 F150 400/4sp should have no probelms towing it.

How do you plan to tow? Strap? Chain? Dolly? Trailer? In what kind of traffic and slopes? How far? Remember pulling is not too difficult but stopping many become a huge problem. How good are the front end and tires on the tow vehicle? You will not like it whipping. The point is around the block may be easy but go to a major rental store for on the highway suggestions. A rough guess of my stock 94 bronco weight is 5200 to 5400 if I take my junk out of the back.

Only you should make the decision at this point. You know the road, minimum speeds and traffic and condition of both truck and trailer. About fifteen years ago I made many trips moving 230 miles with occasional weights around yours with a toyota P/U with a 2.4 L Diesel. Many hills had me down to 25 mph but too many of todays drivers don't have the common sense to avoid a collision. Go to any body shop and count the number of two door cars with front end damage.

check the sticker on the drivers door post if it is still intact it will have the gross weight. however, If you are using a twin-axle trailer that has its own brakes you will have no problem towing it with a 400

Also I would check the GVWR on the trailer. The trailer needs to be rated for the weight of the truck plus the trailer. Most trailers are about 2,000 lbs with either a 7,000 or 10,000 lbs GVWR. (take the 7 or 10K lbs GVWR and subtract the 2000 lbs of the trailer give you a max capacity of 5K or 8K depending on the trailer).

I am not sure I would want to tow a 4-5000 lbs bronco on a 7,000 lbs trailer.

I had no problames. I had it a little hot one time when i had to drop to 3rd, but i let my foot out of it a little and it cooloff.

it was slow comming up the hills, the slowest i had to go was 30when to poster speed was 55 or 60.

It was a good trip but i am glad to have he bronco home, now the real fun starts.

Depending on what's in the bronco, 4,800-5,500 is about what it'd weight.
A bronco with 351M NP435, 205, 25 gallon tank(empty) would be closer to 4,800K
A Bronco with 400, C6, NP203, dual batterys, 33gallon tank(full), skid plates, bigger tires would be around 5,500K.

I use to haul scrap with my old Broncos and my 79 with 351/NP435/205 with rear seats removed, no skid plates, single front shocks, and me in it(190lbs.) weighed around 4900lbs. My 78 with 400/c6/205 rear seats in it, plus me, quad front shocks, off road bumpers, skid plates, and full tank of gas weighed around 5500lbs. It can vary a lot.
