I am new to the PSD world, but am a Ford guy for sure. My 97 f150 has 249,000 miles on it and still going great, but I am looking for a used diesel. I have two trucks I have found:
1. 1999 F350, ext cab, 4x4, manual lock hubs, 6 speed manual. It is rough on the outside, farm truck, but only $8,000 with 220,000 miles on it. comes with a 5yr or 100,000 mile warranty on the engine, t case, and transmission.
2. 2001 F350 crew cab, 4x4, automatic, long bed, Lariat. Very clean well cared for truck - $16,000 with 140,000. same warranty.
Anything I should really be looking at on these. The warranty is a 0 deductable full coverage warranty included in the price of the truck. Also what kind of performance should I expect pulling 3 atv's about 3500lbs?
Are these "good deals" or not.
Thanks for your help, I look forward to becoming part of the communtiy.
Your checkbook really is the one to answer that question.
I couldnt get anything less than a crewcab. Twice the truck for twice the price, pretty much. I'd get the 01 over the farm truck for sure, but thats me.
WELCOME to FTE!! The info you'll gain from the folks here is invaluable!!
The '01 is a better starting point with a more maturely marketed 7.3L engine. Price isn't too bad at all. Check the link below for what to look for on a used PSD.
Make sure that the dealer provides BOTH the Carfax and OASIS reports so you can see DMV records and all historical warranty work perfored to-date.
Good point. Most farmers just don't get rid of good work trucks.
Farm truck= rode hard, put away wet, dirty, and with manure in the carpet.
Huntin truck= excatly the same except blood stains in the bed.
Fishin truck = all the above except that the step bumper will be bent above the reciever hitch
