no you would need to get a 45* 4 o.d. exhaust elbow. cant remember the length for sure but it will lay the filter on top of the wheel well where the stock air box used to be. shimming the FPR increases the fuel pressure so that your injectors dont get starved of fuel. the 10k mod will modify the IDM and cause the injector solinoids to fire in 10 thousands of a second rather than the stock 20 thousands of a second thus getting essentially the same power but quicker.

some of the other guys can go into better detail.

The 6637 has a 4" inside diameter. I used a 6" piece of 4" exhaust tubing to slip into the stock intake tubing and into the 6637. I used a constant torque clamp (the ones with the bolt to tighten it down) on the 6637, it is a hard rubber material.

Your fuel pressure can be checked with the valve with an air gauge. The shim just bumps it up to ~70 psi.

The 10k sends more oil pressure to your injectors throught the icp. It can increase your hp by ~20 but can give you a rough idle.

Moose, on our OBS trucks, you need about a 2-3 inch long piece of 4" exhaust tubing or something of the like. The 6637 filter has a hard rubber flange on it that the SD guys can slip their intake tube over and clamp it down. Our intake tube is just a fuzz smaller so we have to use a small piece of pipe. 4" exhaust tubing is perfect.

Shimming the FPR is one of those things that just helps support other mods by keeping more constant fuel pressure. That's one of the things that I'm sure everyone else will agree that you should "just do". A 10K mod will gain you 7hp and 30tq for 99 cents. Well worth your time to do.

Brother, for some reason I always thought you already had done all these things to your truck. Weird. Do the intake, FPR shim,10k, you'll love them I promise. They are all super easy. Opps, I wrote all this before I noticed a second page of posts. who want's to bet I just doubled Tim, or 162's post. Seriously, I haven't looked yet. Here we go.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add. I actually dynoed with the 10k on and off back when I just had a superchips, intake and exhaust. And that's what it netted me. And frnkln2003 that was a good call on the elbow. That really is the best way to do it. But quick and easy is the short piece. The long elbow flows better. At least that's what I think.

I recently put the 6637 on both my '97 and the wifes '00 Excursion. Had an idea or thought that I haven't read about but didn't know if it had been tried yet. On my '97 I needed about 5-6" piece of tubing and it still is a little twisted/preloaded in its position. I know it will be fine and work forever but the Excursion only needed a 2" piece and the filter just butts up against the stock intake tube and it lays in there perfectly. Point is, the tube on the later model is a little longer and I think has a little more bend in it. I think if you could get your hands on one from a junkyard or something it may work even better for the obs also.
As far as changing time, I got the idea from someone else on here to put the filter indicator in the end of the filter so I can watch it. I think its gonna be a pita to do every time I change the filter. I am planning on installing it in the tube itself so its done once and not with every new filter. Anybody see any problems with this idea?

Also wanted to ask if the 10k will work if you are already chipped or is it basically a cheap alternative to a chip. Thought I saw somewhere not to bother if you were already running something but if not I will be doing it I think. Thanks.

the 6637 will clamp onto the stock tube with a peice of 4" exhuast pipe as a connector.
fuel pressure shim many guys use a 3/16 ball bearing i think. you just don't want you fuel pressure over about 80-85 most run about 75. 10k mod will work on a 97 with a noticeable gain usually.

It will work with an off the shelf programmer. But you don't normally want to use it with a custom chip i.e. DP-tuner or Tony wildman They program what the 10k does for you.

RubberDuck,

I haven't even installed any gauges, yet. I should probably do that before I do the 10k mod and shim the FPR. Does the 10k and FPR shim need gauges first, for monitoring after the mods, or are the mods minor enough that I can get away without gauges for awhile?

I've my truck back for about two weeks now. Came out of the repair shop looking fantastic. Pictures coming soon, I promise. Not attributed to the accident was about $2350 in brake system replacement that I hadn't planned on doing just yet. The front brake hoses deteriorated on the inside wreaking havoc on the entire brake system. The front bearings were repacked, the rear drums were turned, the left-side parking brake cable was replaced, and I now have new master cylinder, rotors, calipers, upper ball joints (both sides), lower ball joints (also both sides), front hoses (again, both sides), seals, rear shoes and hardware, and RABS. So, on top of all the hardware issues and deteriorating brake hoses, my RABS was going into bypass-mode, decreasing my braking efficiency by 50% or more (percentage supplied by the brake technician).

I look back on the accident as a "blessing-in-disguise" before my road-trip to California. My wife and I celebrated our 20th anniversary this month. My mom bought us a travel trailer, not new, so don't think we're rolling in money. I'm heading to Cali on the 27th to pick up the trailer and bring it back to Idaho. Back to work on the 30th. Should be a fun weekend.

You should be pretty safe with those mods. In my opinion, they don't warrent gauges. I didn't have them when I ran like that. And when I did get gauges, there was nothing to worry about. Do them and have fun. Be careful out there and Congrats on the 20th!

Hey guys what is the 10k mod exactly? I also am running a DI chip to support stage 3 Hybrids and BB turbo. Is this as Rubberduck said. That my chip has it already in the programimnga? Just got the FPR shims. But i too hesitate to try them as I don't have a fuel pressure gauge to test the difference's in/and or pressures from one shim to the next. thanks for any info. Country
