My 2004 F350 diesel has developed a problem with the transmission in OD under a relatively light load but carrying a camper. On hills, with the transmission in OD and running at about 60 mph, if I don't slack off, the transmission will intermitently slip. If I leave it in OD and the transmission shifts down, the next gear down also slips. There does not seem to be a problem in the other gears. If I take it out of OD there does not seem to be a problem. There is about 46,000 miles on the truck and the transmission has been drained but not flushed (about 9 qts). Has anyone else had this problem and, if so, what was the problem?
You should never pull any type trailer with the tranny in OD. The clutches are probably shot now.
That's completey wrong. Ford recommends towing in overdrive unless the trans is frequently shifting in and out of overdrive. The newer transmissions are designed to tow in overdrive.
And in the 2004 F350 diesel there is NO WAY to take it out of overdrive. There is a tow/haul button, but that does not prevent the trans from shifting to overdrive like the button the older trucks did.
Geeezzz. I guess I need to edumicate meself on da new stuff. Too use to habin to do evatang myself. Mines is manual all da way. I ebn have ta turn my head around and look behine before backin up. Dont ebn got one ob dose beepers on my rear bumpr. OK. I'll shut up now.
Have you had it scoped and have been given any codes. It does sound like some motor problem being your torque convertor locks up whithin the engine due to the shifting points in your transmission. I ahve just exploded a torque convertor due to dropping a fuel injector on number 4 cyclinder.

Excuse my ingnorance, but how does dropping a fuel injector have any relation to an exploded torque converter?
