I have a 2003 f-350(6.0L). I've been thinking about changing my air filter. Could anyone help me out on this and what is the difference between the ford filter and the one that you recommend.
you want the blue filter media which is synthetic...but most dont change the air filters till about 30-40k they last along time and hold up to 3 pounds of dirt.
I always wonder where it is printed in everyones manual but mine on a recommended mileage to change the air filter. My manual simply states to check the filter minder at every oil change and replace filter when the minder tells you to do so. There is no set or recommended mileage to replace the filter at in any of my manuals. I have 80K on my original filter and it is now just starting to move the filter minder. So you can get alot of mileage out of these filters, but it also depends on your driving conditions.
The OEM/Motorcraft blue media is the best filter you can get for these motors.
I have an 03 6.0. In the '6.0 Liter Power Stroke Owner's Guide Supplement' on page 48, it talks about "Which Maintenance Schedule to Follow". On page 52 is the 96,500km (60,000 miles), it specifies "replace engine air filter"....it's the 4th item.
I just downloaded the "2003 6.0 Liter Diesel Supplement 2nd Printing" from www.genuineservice.com and at every 7,500 mile service interval including 60,000 mi all it says is "Inspect engine air filter minder, replace filter as required". There is no specified mileage mark to replace the filter in the maintenance schedule. Maybe yours is a 1st printing supplement and they changed it?
If my 03 f-350(6.0l) comes with the towing package. Is there an easy way to hook up my brake control inside the truck. Or would I have to take it to the shop. I would assume that if the wiring is already in, that there would be a simple T-intersection devise to connect to. Is that correct. Could someone help me with this one.
In my gallery are pics of the OEM blue synthetic air filter and the same filter (made by Donnalson as well) in the white cellulose version (non-synthetic).
When replacing, make sure you know what your getting as some internet sites sell for less (even NAPA I think), but they are cellulose fiber and not the blue synthetic media fiber.
I change every 40,000 miles... but I do not drive or live on any gravel roads. If I did, I would change every 30,000 miles just to play it safe... but there is nothing better than the OEM Donnalson air filters used on the 6.0L motor.... they'll actually go longer as the manual and others have stated... so just keep an eye on them and change at whatever interval makes you feel good.
