I was trying to find a 'parts list' of sorts for what you'd need to check the signal, to no avail so far. You may need a capacitor and 12v lamp of the right values for the pulse to be visible with a test lamp setup. You may only get so much needle fluctuation with an analog meter as well, even at idle rpm. Again, it could just be a broken tach and nothing wrong with the wiring, but that is something that will take a hand-over-hand trace-out.
Weekend is going alright, other than the rainstorms, etc. The tach I put in my Ranger I had was the small SunPro, and put it on top of the steering column. At least if you can find the 4-gauge cluster left side parts, you can swap that out, if the wiring is similar, and then have your aftermarket tach. Still wondering if it's a voltage problem to the instrument cluster or what.
Hey, I finally figured out how to post pics. Im a dumb-*** sometimes!! LMAO Check 'em out and tell me what you think, just remember, its a $500.00 truck!! LOL
I like the camo paint job, the wheels, the front push bar/brushguard/lights, and the bucket seats with center console. Not bad for $500.
Do you have this diagram?
I believe the wires dg/y bk/y marked "to instrument cluster" are the ones you're looking for for the tach. Find those in the connector for the cluster, and then you can check from there. The problem could be in the wiring connector at the cluster (loose/broken?) or at the connector (if there is one?) at the firewall. Again, could be in the cluster assembly itself, but it is worth checking out. If you can tap into those wires at the cluster and wire up and aftermarket tach and it works, then it's your tach in the cluster. If the aftermarket tach does not work, then you know it's elsewhere. If you figure out the problem and fix it, you could probably take the aftermarket tach back and get your refund.
Wow, thanks Kernel. I do not have that diagram, its not in my Haynes manual. But that gives me insight on where to start. I thank you much. Oh yeah, I went out yesterday and got a little mud on the tires!! LOL It was fun, that little truck just keeps on amazing the hell outta me!! Hope you have a great week, and I'll check that out with the tach. Thanks again!!
