Brake light problem -- 2 lower lights don't work, upper light works

Brake light problem -- 2 lower lights don't work, upper light works
I'm having a problem with my brake lights. They don't work. Well, the third brake light does work, but the two lower brake lights don't work. Additionally, if I hook up a trailer, the trailer's brake lights don't work. All running/marker lights and turn signals work, on the trailer and the truck.
Does anyone have any ideas? I've looked for a schematic so that I can trace the wiring, but haven't been able to find one.
