I finally took delivery of my new/used 99 F350 PSD I bought off Ebay 3 weeks ago.
My brother HAD a 1995 F350 gas truck that right before Xmas burst into flames in front of his out and was totalled because he had not yet taken care of the recall.
So the first thing I wanted to do is get this to the dealer to take care of as when looking on the web it said my truck fit the range being recalled.
I dropped truck off at dealer for some minor things and asked they do the recall.
Picked truck up last night and did not see on the ticket they did the recall so I call this morning and speak with the service manager who handled my truck and he told me they did not do it because the recall was VIN specific and mine did not need it.
Has anyone else had this happen to them when they had the recall done?
I thought the Cruise control recall was only for gassers. something about the diesels braking system and wiring being a little different.
>>> That could be, this being my first PSD I just want to make sure and who better ask than the guys like yourselves with more experience than me.
Thanks for the info, this board has been extremely helpful in my 3 weeks of diesel ownership and I look forward to getting more info from everyone here.
The recall was for the possible leak of the brake secondary (backup) switch.
Its mounted on the master cyl. If i remember, if you have the red one (switch) you are ok.
Some models (gassers) had constant power to the cruise control switch even with the key out of the ignition. With the combination of this and brakefluid leaking & bad seals, could cause the fires we all heard so much about on the news. Most of the super dutys have the same exact cruise control switch as the one being replaced (part #'s were the same). The big difference is we (most super dutys) do not have constant power to the cruise control wiring. Easy to check with a multimeter. Pull the plug of the CC switch on the brake cylinder and check it out. If you have constant power to the cc with the key out of the ignition - pay the $ and change the switch, i THINK IT WAS $35. Better than having the truck burn itself down & the house along with it.
