Ford and Navistar try to squeeze as much profit possible out of there products. To do this no doubt inferior parts were introduced into the mix.
The new emmissions BS are to blame for the 6.4 problems. Read the latest edition of "diesel power" mag and they covered the new emmissions crap on the Fords, Chevys and Dodges, talk about restrictive. A true cluster edit of parts.
To clean out the sulfer and crap from the particulate filters (cats) they ramp up the EGTs to burn off the crap so it doesn't clog the cats. This elevated EGT is no doubt the root of the "Roman Candle" thing.
$8000 extra for a 6.4, No thanks.
You are going to see mor V10s on the lot.

The only thing that is funny is the word "quickly". "Quickly" would mean 2010 at the earliest.
As far as the V10 goes, it could be easily replaced by the up and coming 6.2L V8. It is not cost effective to keep around a engine and only use it in one platform. So I would not expect the V10 to be around all that much longer.

8,000 for the diesel you must be at the wrong dealer, mine wasn't near that much. I think that if Ford was to build their own diesel and build it fast it would be a bad idea. It would take a wile to properly design, manufacture and test a GOOD deisel engine. If you thought the 6.0 litre launch was bad you just wait.

The V10 is used in F Series, E-Series, Motorhomes as well as Industrial Generators and I'm sure I missed some applications. So there is not just one platform that the V10 is being put in.
So your saying the 5.4 will not be around much longer either since both were introduced at roughly the same time (Mid 90's)
If the EPA has anything to say about it we will all be driving little puddle jumpers like in Europe. It cracks me up we need to save the enviroment by reducing emmisions in our autos (Good to a certain extent) meanwhile our overpaid EPA buddies are cruising in their hybrids and sitting at home heating a 8000sq.ft. home for 2 people to live in. Yep makes sense to me.
