Took a pretty hard rock strike on my drivers side tow mirror. I've got the type with LED signal/marker lights. Anybody know whats the best way to repair the crack?
Mine's cracked on the front side. It's black plastic. If you can replace only the outer front shell, that would be great. My local Ford dealer will only sell the hole mirror @ $360.00. I think the the glue on covers would be okay.

What a joke...they will only replace the whole mirror. Just replace the cover... email these guys..
You can get just the outer shell. If your dealer can't get it go somewhere else. I got mine for about $90.00. It is a real pain in the *** to get the old one off, I cut it off, then the new one just snaps into place. Be very careful if you cut it off, there are some wires right behind it.
WHEN I BOUGHT MY TT MIRRORS WITH SIGNALS FROM THE DEALER, THEY DIDN'T come with the back cover part with the signal at all. you had to buy that seperately. it wasn't available as a complete unit.
To help get that cover off properly.....just adjust the mirror all the way up...then to the left or right... When it is adjusted all the way out you can see behind the glass and get to the snaps to help pop out the cover...
Listen to Layson above...that's how I got my cover off. Be very careful, there are two plastic tabs that are pretty thin. I broke one of mine getting the cover off...which in your case should not be a problem since you're gonna replace it anyway.
Go to any reputable body shop...they can order just the cover if you want. AND, this might be a good time to consider color matching to your trucks body color. Mine is a King Ranch and the covers are painted. It really makes for a sharper look once they're painted if you ask my opinion.
Thanks guys. Sometimes the dealer can really pmo. Lots of times in Canada, you really have to hunt for a part that's pretty commom in the lower 48. I'll email powerstroke.com and also check with a body shop nearby that does a lot of work on Ford trucks I know. You'd think, living in a Canadian city with nearly a million people here, that there would be easier access to an item like this.
Do you mean the actual piece of glass/mirror, and not the entire part that moves when you aim the mirrors? If you replace the whole part, it's the glass that is fixed to a backing plate, and it pops into the main mirror body with a couple guide pins, adjustment pins, and one ball/socket type joint. To replace only the actual glass, you'd probably have to go to a mirror or auto glass shop, or use a heater of some sort on it and some sort of thin line to cut it out... no idea how you'd go about it, though.
