The number is stamped on a pad near the oil filter. Some stickers on the valve cover(s) may have the ser#.

Camshaft Position Sensor (CPS)
(Ford) F6TZ-12K073-A 94-96
(Ford) F7TZ-12K073-A 97+
(International) 1821720C99 (below engine 375548)
(International) 1825899C93 (above engine 375548)
(International) 1807339C92 (DT466 CPS, reported to advance timing, and stronger signal

no but you may need some sand paper to clean rust off. they are kind of hard to read

With the build date of 5/97 you need the (above engine 375548) (International) 1825899C93

To find the engine number, if you are looking at the oil filter it is on the flat machined area. Take a piece of soap stone and rub over it, then blow the excess off. It will collect in the stamping and make it easier to see. A magnifying glass and a flashlight will help.

this is driving me nuts i still cant see it but its getting late. so ill give up. is it a pretty safe bet that with the 5/97 date it would be over 375548? will there be a visibal difference in the cps between the over and under 375548?

From talking to my IH parts guy this is the info that he told me: The change over happened in mid 96 and the difference is the stand off from the crank plate (how far the sensor goes through the front cover).
Ford breaks theirs down this way: 94, 95, & 96 use one (below engine 375548); and 97 up use the other one (above engine 375548).
Again, this is what I have been told by the IH and Ford parts people, but to be sure, check your engine number.
