I just got a 3'' downpipe for my 97 350 psd. I unbolted the stock downpipe no problem, but I know you have to cut it to get it out, but what did you guys find cut it best? I tried cuttin it with a cutting wheel for about half hour, made hardly any progress, decided to call it a night. Also, the stock one is wrapped in heat shield tape and the new one isnt, is that gonna be a problem around any of the lines? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
I used a 4 1/2 in angle grinder, 3in air grinder and sawzall, whichever fit in better. You will prolly have to cut it at the bend coming out of the turbo and underneath as well. First thing you should do before cutting is unbolt the dp from the turbo and seal the turbo opening wiht duct tape to keep metal shavings out of the turbo.
I am going to tackle the exact same thing next weekend and about all I have to work with is a Black and Decker cordless sawzall and an angle grinder. Is the stock downpipe really that tough? I had to move it around a bit when I changed my TC and it seemed kind of flimsy. The thing is during my TC change I tried to disconnect it from my my turbo and no dice, it was stuck on there. Is that the big issue with DP removal? Also, I got my DP from Pure Diesel Power, it's a Diamond Eye unit. Is this a quality piece? Or just a piece?

yes it is. make your first cut on the dp from under the truck by the bell housing with the DP bolted up to the turbo. Then cut off the top of the dp. I found it was best to leave the dp bolted to the turbo to make this cut.
6 hrs to remove the dp and 1 hr to install a complete Diamond Eye system.
When you use a sawzall use millwalkee's "torch" blades. They make them in several lengths. They ain't cheap but you get what you pay for. The "torch" blades cut very well. They can help any sawzall become a great sawzall. Good luck in your cutting.
Well.....while I am under there, i guess I should gut the EBPV. What if I removed that before I made the top cut? Then put it in a vice for the second cut? Is the EBPV easy to un bolt? And on that note, see the new thread I am about to start on EBPV gutting.
