I recently posted on here asking about swapping 88 I ton D60 and 10.25 axles to a 75 F250 4x4 with 44/60. Then I was reminded of the different frame widths. How many guys here have used axles from a truck with a wider frame and how did you make it work. Im not a welder/fabber myself but know someone that can. Is it a matter of cutting/grinding off the perches and relocating them to where they need to be and or using different shackles and brackets to mount the springs? how much wider is the frame of an 88? I need help on this one
Rear end is pretty easy. Just move the perches. Keep the pinion angle the same. Front would be tougher because the left perch is a cast aprt of the housing on the original front end.
ok so the rear sounds like a go but it might be easier to try and find a Dana 60 from a 70's F350 which could be tough. Thanks for the reply i didnt think i was gonna get one
I'd throw a tape measure across the front axles.I'm pretty sure the perch spacing is the same.If the rear you want to use came from an F350 cab and chassis you are in luck because the c&c models used the same 34" frame width as your highboy. If the rear came from an F350 pickup then you will have to move the perches inward because the pickups used a 38" frame width.Hope this helps.
