Another MPG thread.

Im flat out broke. Today I had to drive 76 miles (round trip) to go pick up uniforms for my new job. I threw $50 worth of gas in the Excursion and took off. I had nothing to do today other than get my uniforms so I decided to see what the best mpg was I could get.

I reset the lie-o-meter at the gas station (not on the road to get the max). From the gas station to the freeway was about 6 miles of city driving. I didnt let the RPMs get above 2,000 while city driving. On the freeway I went 70 in the 75 zones. Everywhere else I did the speed limit 65 and 55 in some areas. I didnt pass anyone. I never got the rpms over 2,400 on the freeway. When I got off the freeway I was averaging 20.1mpg. That quickly dropped to 18mpg before getting back on the freeway and heading home. By time I arrived home I was down to 16.2mpg. I would have made it back home with an average of 17.3mpg but I hit all six red lights getting back home. It is really hard accelerating from a stop and not letting the RPMs go over 2,000. Im sure I pissed off a few people that were behind me.

I wish I could back this all up with hand calcs for an entire tank but $50 is all I could afford to put in her. The lie-o-meter has always been +- 0.2 when I verify by hand on long road trips.

16.2 MPG on a 76 mile trip is good for a V10 (or any big engine). What do you normally get?

Oh heck no im not complaining. I think that 16.2 is awsome. Some of those diesel guys arent even getting that. I just wanted to see what it took to get that kind of mileage. My wife will start driving it tonight and ruin my numbers, it will be around 11mpg next time I look.

The usual MPG for our Excursion is right around 12mpg mixed driving.

I need to go on some long trips. My console thing-a-ma-gig never reads
above 8.3 under any circumstances. All city driving of course.

With summer coming on, and the Air Conditioning in use, it will drop to 6.5 to 6.7.

I just bought my SD about a month ago. I haven't had a chance to hit the road yet but I'm at 7.5 mpg in town.

When I got back into the X after my wife drove it for a few days she only brought the average down to 13.1. And the low fuel light was on, lol.

Women claim that fumes, mixed perfectly with perfume, makes the truck run better. Reasoning, therefore, is out of the question.

I'm getting 15 with about 20/80 % mix of city and freeway. The city part is pretty open though, no traffic and few stop lights. I am never in too big of a hurry though. While I keep up to and pass most traffic, I am pretty easy on the acceleration, its my $$$ after all and I'll save it for towing the camper!

I do 95% city driving and average 9+ mpg, mostly 45 mph and slower. So if your getting 16.2 thats fantastic . Towing 10K 5th wheel I average about 8

mpg on the freeway.

ok I am not beeing a smart *** here, but you guys with that real low mileage...are you resetting the meter and then checking it?
I get 12-14 driving it easy around town.Yes I can drop it to 10 if I hit the throttle at every light. I get 16-19 Highway at 70 with the cruise on.
