99 350 SRW V10 4x4. I am getting vibration as I accelerate from a stop into a turn. Doesn't happen on straightaway. Truck has new front rotors and pads and all of the steering linkage has been regreased. Any thoughts as to the possible causes?
Your not going to like this answer if you can determine that it is NOT rear diff limited slip clutches chattering.....
If you do NOT have LS in the back OR you know it is really in the front and NOT the rear diff----- then I suspect you have one or both front hub bearings going south
They are a sealed non maintainable unit and fairly expensive
The early trucks and vans 98~01 had a rash of these hubs crap out and a LOT of forum discussion on the problem years ago
Have the 3.73 LS. and I am not necessarily feeling the vibration in the steering wheel, though if I remember right the problem was worse in 4wheel. What is the procedure for checking the rear differential? Replace fluid? Thanks for the help.
Shudder and chatter of the LS unit doing it's thing properly is fairly easy to feel/hear on a hot rear end in a very tight turn on dry ground.
If set up properly, you should only very slightly be able to make any chatter...fact is most of them are worn and slip too much or have too much friction modifier and you never hear or feel the chatter because of too much slip... they hardly ever get noisier or harder with time/age....
Any who....get her good and warm with a 5 or more mile normal drive and then find a place to do a series of slow speed very tight turns in forward and reverse.... if it is the rear end chattering you should hear/feel it
