Okay here is the set up: I-6 NO **Emissions Connected TF-IV ignition in an 84 Bronco.
I am incurring a high speed miss and the engine feels as if it is being "held back".
Ignition module checks out, computer controlled advance checks out (MAYBE???) Does anyone know what the full advance is? I am not sure the engine is advancing to it's full limit. Timing is set at 10 degrees and the engine purrs like a kitten at low speed and idle.
** No air pump, no feedback controls, empty cat... it's all gone.
The ignition advance would definitely be a big MAYBE. As you know, the computer controls the advance. But depending on what you have disconnected, it may be getting false info or no info at all to decide whether to advance the ignition, and how much to advance. If you are stripping the engine down, I would go ahead and convert it to a duraspark II dist and ignition. This set-up has the vacuum advance can and the weights in the dist to do all the timing advance.
Back to the top.... Hey there Mr Franklin2.... I am almost ready to perform the Duraspark II transplant with one minor hitch. I am unable to locate the resistance wire in any vehicle at the junk yard. I purchased a resistance coil at 1.35 ohms at a parts store... do you think it will work?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Feb-02 AT 08:55 PM (EST)]I believe it will. The original resistence wire is 1.05 to 1.15 ohms. I would definitely hook it up and see what happens. Sometime down the road maybe you will find the one that has a little lower resistance. Mount it somewhere on the firewall or engine block where it won't catch anything on fire. They do get warm, and it may smoke a little bit since it is new.
