Had the codes printed out yesterday, and I it's telling me an O2 sensor is bad.
Code is 172 H02S SYSTEM LEAN (BANK 1).
Which sensor is it? I don't know how many there are or which one it is referring to.
There was another Koeo CODE 111 System pass code No faults detected during Koeo test.
Bank 1 is the passenger side, and it would be the "upstream" sensor, in front of the converter.
Keep in mind a LEAN code doesn't necessarily indicate a faulty Oxygen sensor... all it means is that the computer is receiving information that BANK 1 is running lean. Personally, I'd be suspecting a vacuum leak before an O2 sensor.
Changing the o2 sensor on the passenger side of the 4.0 is fun. It is on the front side of the exhaust pipe and not a lot of room. The pigtail has to be fished up the firewall side of the engine block and plugged in. The driver side is a snap to change by comparison.
Your situation comes down to this: Is the O2 sensor indicating a true lean condition? Or, is it malfunctioning? If you truly have a lean condition, you'll have to look elsewhere for the problem. There are many proponents who say that O2 sensors don't go bad, even after 14 years of use, so it wouldn't do you any good to waste your money on a new O2 sensor.
However, that O2 sensor is 14 years old. It might be malfunctioning. If you don't have any heartache over spending $50 on a new O2 sensor, it may fix your problem.
