Hey a quick qestion about header wrap.Who has it and who does not.I will be putting my engine in the weekend and I am thinking that I should put header wrap on the headers.Any info would be nice thanks.
I might use it some on my headers. It's great for keeping heat in and off the accessories, starter, etc. What brand and model of headers did you go with? What engine? Are they coated?
I would DEFINETLY recommend some near the starter and any place where it gets near anything vital. I'll be wrapping mine near the A/C stuff, starter, and transmission.
Well they are JBA and they are not coated. They are stainless steel. The engine is a 98 4.0 and the main reason for the wrap would be for the EGR hoses that come off the EGR tube. Also they say that the drop in temp will help the intake charge.I put a Comp Cam 410 in it and had the engine balanaced.Polished the rcoker shafts, installed new lifters, push rods, bearing, rings and timing kit.
Very nice upgrade. I'd love to see a dyno sheet after you get it all done, if you're so inclined.
It's up to you whether you want to completely wrap them. I would definetly say wrap them near anything that's temp sensitive. Otherwise, take your pick.
The down side to header wrap is it holds in moisture and is bad to cuase rust, but with stainless steel, may not be as much of a problem. I have the jba headers as well, but mine are coated, being they are shortie headers, they don't cover much more area than does the stock exhaust manifolds, generated heat isn't a real big problem on most shorties. I didn't wrap mine and yet to have any issues, however, if you think you may have a trouble spot, then wrap, an ounce of pervention is worth a pound of cure they say. Good luck on the install!!!!
