I hate to admit this since I am a new member but here it goes,I have bought a '97 Ranger w/o a camshaft synchronizer installed and the engine is not at TDC. can I move the engine w/o messing anything up. All the post I have seen say to note where everything was when removed. I don't have that advantage. ANY HOPE. Any and all help is appreciated.

Unless the timing is off a lot, you should be able to put it at TDC to install the new synchro.

seems I have another stupid question, a.)should I trust the timing marks on the damper or should I use the screwdriver in the spark plug hole trick(I actually use an old CB antenna).b.)there are 2 marks on the damper one say's TDC the other says 0 degrees. Aren't they the same. I need lots of help as you can tell. Please and thank you all in advance

Stick your finger in the #1 spark plug hole and turn the crank. When you feel compression, continue turning the crank until the TDC mark lines up with the pointer.
