I have done some searching on the forum for info on the 4.5l kit for the 4.0l ohv. i can't seem to find any via searching. does anyone have any info available? Thanks in advance
I knew someone on here had one. well basically where to get it and approx cost, and advantages and disadvantages. how much hp/tq are gained. and in your opinion is it worth the cost?
www.moranav6racing.com Thats the site i bought it from. there's different levels of completeion you can buy.
light weight cast steel crank, forged I-beam connecting rods, forged pistons, performance piston rings, Clevite or SpeedPro rod and main bearings, fully balanced $2,500. Had to hone the block ourselves. it ended being a lot of work.
peak horse power 247.3 @ 4,700. 285 ft-lbs @ 3,300. No this was at the rear wheels, before it was completly borken in. No those numberres are also without my turbo. the current setup put that to shame, but ended up costing alot.i found the basic kit to be alright, but it eats alot of fuel without the turbo, and a good tuning program. you'll also want better ingectors, and better plugs.
Unless you willing to throw the money into it, dont buy it. it needs more than that to make it really run
you'll also need a better tranny, the mod5 clutch will melt under those conditions
I don't know Alan, it sounds like 80 more hp and 50 pounds of torque that the kit did allright by you. Those are the kind of numbers you get from a forced induction system. I'ld rather do a stroker than a super charger or turbo, you would have a better chance of getting by emisions and it's all motor. You wouldn't be dealing with excessive heat generated by a turbo that reduces engine life. I'm waiting for Tom to come out with the stroker for the sohc. If I recall, you can get the short block for 3,500.00$ with the work done, you just have to swap it in. . Alan got the parts for 2,500 and did the engine work himself. Thats a pretty good bump in power for the money if you think about. With the sohc, it should put us in the 300 hp range, so who needs a stinken heavy v8.
Tom takes credit cards and your first born if need be ha ha. Unless you had some specific engine work that you needed done, I believe you would be better off to get the short block with the stroker installed. An xtra grand isn't bad for a completely assembled short block. It could easely cost more than that to have someone assemble it for you. 3,500 for an assembled 4.5 250 hp stroker motor isn't bad.
wendell did u mean $3500 for a long block or was it just the short block? seems like alot of money for just a few of the main components if it is a short block

You run a good point there. This years project is an oil cooler(your suggestion form a little while ago), and a second small radiator in the main collent system. I'm finnally running an inter cooler on my turbo, and it's been donating alot of heat into the rest of the engine. the stock system can handle normal driving with no problem, but if i have it running to hard for too long, the heatmometer starts moving, and i dont like that.
Though i'm not gonna be able to put as much into it this year. Wife just got a focus to lease. It's an 06 with the st package. she's leasing it for 2 years, with the option to buy at the end. i cant say it's at a bad price, they only want 160 a month after 4000 (with trade in+downpayment). It's got the 2.3 5 speed. I'm not allowed to mod it though .
To tell you the truth Matt, I don't remember, it's been awhile since I've visited the site, it could be a long block. That still isn't bad if you compare it to the price of performance create motors. Whats a performance 5.0 from ford now, 4 or 5 grand. A stock 4.0 ohv is a 160 hp, thats about a 100 hp bump and look at the price of the super charger from EE, it's over 4 grand closer to 5. Your average turbo kit is around 3,500. So 3,500 for a stroked assembled engine doen't sound to bad to me. I'll visit Tom's site, it could be the long block.
OK Matt, I just checked and it is 3,500 for the short block, they do offer long blocks, but pricing depends on head stages. It still doesn't seem that bad to me if you look at the price of some forced induction kits, create motors and so on. I mean it's not free my any means, but it's not over the top either. Thats a darn good hp and torque bump and if your good with the wrenches, you could get it for 2,500 bones. This wouldn't be for the guy who's looking for acouple xtra ponies, but for someone looking to make serious power with a 4.0. I would like to see what the kit does for the 4.0 cammer when it comes out, by looking at the ohv motor, it should put us up to around 300. That would be some serious power from a 4.0 with no forced induction. I will be so tempted if not bitten. That kind of power and torque would turm my truck into a mean offroad machine. Ild be ready to line up beside Rob then ha ha.
Keep trying, Tom is a busy man, is there a phone number to call or just e-mail address? I 'll check the site to see if I can help you out in some way. I didn't take him long to answer Alan when he wanted to buy a stroker.
I got a phone number, it's (416) 412-2815 and then there's the e-mail, you should be getting a reply from one of the two if not both. I know Tom is slammed right now getting ready for the 07 racing season, but I'm sure he will get back to you. What kind of motor are you wanting to build that you would want stage 3 heads, your talking a serious 4.5, are you wanting to race or just a mean street cruiser?
