no intentions of racing really, i just want something to be proud of lol. and something that can stand up to a good bit of abuse. i want to keep it N/A possibly nitros in the future. most of the abuse comes from outer banks vacation every summer. two weeks of pushing sand can be hard on my baby

I gotcha, I'm interested in the stroker as well, more for the lowend torque for offroading, not that it won't be fun on the street as well. Everyone keeps yapping about just swapping in a 5.0, I personaly like the 4.0 and it's lighter than a 5.0 and more emisions friendy. Tom said the stroker should be done by summer for the sohc, I can't wait to see the numbers. I'm like you, I'd rather stay all motor, it's to easy to suck in some dirt offroad and you can kiss your 4,000 dollar turbo or SC good-bye. Strokers by thier nature really boost the torque, it should be awesome in a small light weight package like the 4.0.

i agree, and it would be nice to eat 5.0 stangs for breakfast, with a v-6 N/A. not to bash the v-8 rangers, i think that putting a 302 is kinda the easy way out. much more of a challange to build a great v-6.

Yeah, I imagine it would raise a few eyebrawls to get walked on my a v6 ranger. They won't know what hit thim and I'm sure you would have to raise the hood to convince them that a 4.0 v6 just took them to school, the look would be priceless!!!!!!!!!!!

hmm i wonder how big a shot of NO2 that motor could take. Kind of off subject, but my truck has the plastic upper intake (1997 Mazda B4000 OHV), was there a stock alluminum upper that would fit my truck. i think it would be much easier to polish than a plastic one.
short block 4.5 $3500, stage 3 heads $1550, watching a school boy cry because a 10 year old pickum up truck with a v-6 beat the pants off his brand new 5.0 stang that his mommy and daddy bought him as a graduation gift...... PRICLESS!!!

With the stroker kit having forged rods and pistons, it should be able to take a good shot of NOS. I don't know of any other intake manny for the 4.0 besides the plastic one. That might be something interesting to bring up to Tom to see if he's addressed this or has any plans to do so. With the 4.0 being used in the mustang, there should be alot of options comming down the pike, more so for the cammer, but some may transfer to the ohv.

4.5 stroker would be an awesome street motor. Especially considering the emissions requirements of Kalifornia. Maybe when Santa asks me what I want for Christmas, I can put this on the list.

i spoke with Tom yesterday, he is no longer doing the 4.5L. He will do the 4.3L. He said he was not getting enough feedback on the 4.5L. LOL he said he has not been on the internet for some time since he got rid of his secretary. He does have a lot of diff things comming up in the future. He made mention of a dual TB intake for our trucks. He was very excited about all the new things he is conjuring up. I did like what he had to say about a motor he could build for me. Basically said it would be bullet proof. 0 - unlimited rpm. Tom is a funny man. Now i just need a loan.... anyone willing?

That sucks, then I guess there will be no stroker for the sohc either. "O WELL", just have Tom put together a motor, that would be better than just a stroker.

He is comming out with stuff for the sohc. HE told me for $7500 he would build me a complete 4.3 N/A with 300hp plus, of coarse minus the accy. If i understood him correctly(his accent is hard to understand) that also included an upper intake. now keep in mind, the truck is not tuned just yet .

oh btw his 4.3 uses the 4.0 block, lol but i am sure you assumed that

No more 4.5 stroker eh? Bummer, guess I will have to live with the 4.0 liter then.

You could still do a 4.5 stroker, all of you (Cddz, Nighteyez, and Wendell). You'ld need to buy a honing kit, and new pistons. If your really interested i could work ongetting Chad to do a write up on how to do it. I've actually been considering seeing about doing a writeup for this site. and seeing if i can get some cash, or some free stuff.

(Free stuff is always good)

The soch should really crank out power. from this mod. of course, ford will never tyouch your truck again. and anything that happens to it will be on you own your shoulders, or some private little grage.

The way it sounds, Tom is going to be putting more effert into a 4.3 stroker for both motors, can't wait to see what all he has comming down the pike for the 4.0's. I don't need a high reving race motor, I need a good lowend torque motor, thats what would be great about a stroker, gobs of lowend. Even a 4.3 stroker would be pretty awesome if done right and I'm sure Tom will.

Hate to steal a thread, But wendell. if your going for a lowend torque motor, would a straight 6 be the way to go. the one they ran in the older jeep cherokees and such are really good for offroading.

Well sure it would be better, like the old ford 300 I-6, now that was a torque monster, it made it's peak torque at 2,000 rpm's. However, I don't have a straight 6, I have a v6 and do have to pass emissions. So I have to run what I brung as the old saying goes. My cammer is no sloutch in the lowend department, but if your gonna dream, might as well dream big, a stroker id doable, where as a straight 6 is not. I mean it's doable with time and money, plus a lot of fab work, but my truck is a daily driver that has to pass emssions. With what I've done so far, the truck runs great and it's still legal. The only other upgrade I would concider, would be a set of long tube headers instead of these junky shorties and a stroker kit. I could also do a set of 4:56 gears, but I have to watch the mpg as it's my work truck.
