i was told that only certain number like 1-3000 (or something like that) of the first trucks were the ones that were throwing the flames and it also matters what plant the truck came out of... i think the Kentucky plant was one of them where they were producing trucks with the flames being blowed out the tail pipes....

I'd say let it ride for awhile. You'd take a bath on it by selling it now and you likely wouldn't get any less for 10k miles than 2-3k.

Man I can sure understand your frustration though. I'm getting ready to order a new F450 so I appreciate any impressions you can tell us about as you continue to break in your new truck.

There is no way you can confidentally state that. Dodge forums are showing issues as well. Engines regardless of manufacturer can and do break down.

The ford trucks are much better then the dodge but the cummins is the better engine, the 6.4 is going to cost a fortune to keep on the road after warranty. I was at the dealer yesterday and the service writer told me almost all componets are not reuseable ,the 6.0 is bad enough but the 6.4 will break the bank,if you ever have any problems out of warranty.

hulk, if u really want to stay ford, then buy a broken in 7.3, a good running 02 or 03 with 70-100k on her! i bought a 01 with 102k on her and she was problem free until i sold her with 152k! just look for one that has been taken care of.

"..gonna cost a fortune to keep it on the road after warranty."

more complete speculation, without a shred of fact back it up. If something goes seriously wrong with ANY of the new engines, gas or deisel, Chevy or Ford or Dodge or Toyota, they ALL cost a fortune to fix.

I was not not talking serious problems, injector bad need new fuel line, head gasket have to remove cab to repair, the concern was from the service writer at my dealer. He also said they had to stock alot more parts for the 6.4. as was posted before if the engine is so great why is ford only using it for 2 years and building there own engine. In 2010.

i want to see some rock solid proof of this, just because it was posted in a magazine does not mean it is happening, when ford puts out a press release stating that they are developing their own diesel for 2010 i will believe it, if they already have done this i just havent seen it

They haven't put out a press release and who knows maybe Ford will turn a profit soon and buy Navistar outright. Would be nice to get back in the heavy truck business.

Allways amazing how it's mainly people with just a few posts who can't seem to get a truck from a certain brand that doesn't rain broken parts down the road as they drive it. I just can't see a stock 7.3 PSD chucking a rod as our old slugs in stock form just don't rev high enough for it! However, improperly modding these engines can lead to disasters.

Guys, as far as I am concerned, there is no truck built by any MFG. that is not gonna break the bank, once out of warrenty! I guess we could all go back to "the good old days?", and get mechanical pumped 6.9s, or perish the thought, a GMC OR Chevy with a 6.2. Bllgghh!! It is disapointing that this "flame thrower" thing happened, especially after all the hoopla about how thoroughly this engine system was "tested?" I think they should have kept on driving them around Mesa for a tad longer. Just one old mans opinion. Good luck and God Bless! DALEDIESEL.
