'08 E-Series Update

I was at a Ford dealer here in L.A yesterday and got the new brochure for the '08s. They are stopping production of the '07s soon and they aren't making any more with the 6.0s. Ford is going to start producing the '08s in October so there will be a huge gap.

As for the Diesel. They said there will be a diesel for '08 but not the 6.4L My dealer told me Ford will most likely will put there own diesel in the new E-Series. They only had 1 '07 E-350 with the diesel in it on the lot thats cargo.

Stop now and start in October. Seems quite a gap. Any reason for the long lag? Eliminate the inventory and start fresh?

My dealer offered no explanation for the huge gap in production. Thats the only thing I can think of is that they wanna get rid of all the '06s and '07s. But that's leave the lots empty of vans which isn't a good thing though.

As for the new diesel I'll be a guinea pig for it. I'll just have it written in my contract that if my van has to be in the dealership overnight then they'll give me a full size van or pick-up so I can still pull my trailer with it. I doubt 1 of those Ford Focus loaner cars would look very good pulling a 8,000 lbs trailer....lol

there are some real issues between Ford and Navistar(IH) who makes their diesel engines. a customer brought in a new F350 with the new 6.4 diesel, the exaust at the tail pipe was so hot at idle you couldn't hold your hand near it. he also said he was getting about 8 mpg with about 1200 miles on the odometer I think thats why the lag time, they don't have another one ready yet

I don't think Ford is sure on what diesel they're gonna put in the '08s themselves. They know they have to put 1 in it though. I'd kinda like to see Ford put their own diesel in the new vans personally. They can't do any worse than Navistar is doing is the way I see it. I've been reading on the other forums that the fuel mileage on the 6.4s isn't all that great either.

My local FORD dealer in little old Gainesville, FL was unable/unwilling to provide any information on the '08 Econolines. I obviously did not get the pick of the litter when it came to salesmen, but his manager was no better. It became clear right away that I had more information about the new Econoline than they did. They failed miserably to even represent the '07 Econoline, you would not believe the difficulty they had providing me with a brochure & that did not cover the Club Wagon!

Oddly enough they also had an uncharacteristically large inventory of Econolines to sell. Where they'd often have half a dozen there must have been 2 dozen.

They did have '08 F-Series trucks & literature & suspected it wouldn't be until July that they'd see E-Series stuff.

I wonder if Ford is going to put the same 4.4 they have rumored to stick in the '09 F150.

As far as I know Ford doesn't have their own diesel, at least not one for use in the states. I wrench for a Navistar dealer, the rumor was that they were going to use a european design, In their larger trucks they use the Cummins C series, previously they used a Brazilian made Diesel. Personally I hope they use anything other than Navistar, because I hate working on them, especially in the E series. I guess we'll all have to wait and see how it all shakes out. If I hear anything on the Navistar end you guys will be the first to know

Gee, maybe the used price of my '06 will climb to more than what I paid for it.

Wow, a six month gap. Gonna be quiet at the truck and van dealers and modifiers for a while.

Maybe we need some MORE pollution regulation to shut the industry down completely.....then we can just become a tourist destination and work in "the bustling service industry!"

(Flippin' diesels are running cleaner than ever before, way, way less than 10% of the pollutants of just a handful of years ago and it's still not good enough for the tree huggers. You gotta understand where all this is headed.

Rickshas and bicycles for everyone!!YAY!!!!!)

I was told that the delay was because they had to make a new van. The 6.4 is too wide for the existing one, so they are re-tooling or something. Might be all bull, I don't know.

i know the 6.4 is too wide because all the ambulance upfitters are looking at other companies for a replacement.this what is really going to hurt ford if they cant get a diesel engine in the 08 vans.

As long as they put anything in them but a Navistar engine. Maybe Ford can work out a deal with Cat for 1 of their engines?? That for sure would send sales on the new vans through the roof. That is if they wouldn't put a real high $$$ amount on them.
