Does anyone know of a good 2wd leveling kit for a 2003 7.3L? I've seen the polyurethane blocks but I'm reluctant to buy. Has anyone done this? Also, any links to specific kits would be appreciated.
I bought a Fabtech 4" lift kit about 3 years ago. The shop suggested using the coil springs for the 6" lift kit because we were afraid of sag with the PSD weight. The kit was about $1,300 installed -- it ain't cheap.
They then dropped in a spacer block under the rear leafs to level her out. It's been 3 years and not a lick of trouble. The truck has the stance and look of a leveled 4wd.
If you go the 4" route, I'd recommend using the 6" springs.
It hurt bad when I spent it, but in hindsight it was cheaper than tradin' in for a 4wd -- for awhile there I think I was tryin' to get stuck just so I could trade up to 4wd. Fabtech was about the only place that had any kind of leveling/lift for the 2wd at the time.
Good thread -- I've also been wondering if there was a way to lift the 2WD model a little as it definitely has a lower stance. It never ceases to amaze me that I'll be thinking about something and low and behold, a thread shows up here talking about that very thing. It's happened several times now, an I'm a fairly new user/owner.
Anyway, is there any other input on this subject other than the $1300 solution? I'm with David on this one -- that $$$ could go to several much higher priority projects (truck & --GASP-- non-truck related). One thing I've been thinking about is whether or not the lower stance of the 2WD would actually yield better performance & mileage. I know there are 4WD guys posting 20+ mpg, and I haven't seen that yet, but I would think the much lower stance would have an effect. My gauges will be here shortly, and after that is the DP with the econo-tune (and at least one other high-performance tune), so I'm expecting a nice gain. I was already getting 16-17 in the winter on the highway doing 75-80 mph, so I'm hoping to see 20 at some point (**IF** I can keep my foot out of it!!!).
The ride's good, but firm, it's not as soft as the factory coils, especially since I loaded in the springs for the 6" lift. I put airshocks on the back cause I tow a 32' travel trailer and it's nice to be able to level the rig out and get a nice ride while towin'.
I know the $1300 solution ain't for everyone, but I couldn't stand the way my front end sagged and I really wanted a leveled 4wd look. It's been 3 years and I've had zero problems with the Fabtech kit.
