Ok, here is my situation. I just got a 94 F-150 with a 5.8 and a E4OD tranny. The guy I got it from just had a local tansmission guy rebuild the transmission(I have heard nothing but bad things about this transmission guy). The transmission is NOT right. I was wondering if any of you had an idea what might be wrong with it. This is what happens. 1st gear, when you push the pedal down it slowly moves forward. As is goes through the gears the engine rpms get up as high as 4500 rpm before it shifts, for the most part when it does shift the shifts are smooth. Most of the time when the rpms get high its in 2nd gear then it seems to double shift while the rpms are coming down after shifting. When I have been in a foward gear and shift into reverse it can take as long as 30 sec. to shift to reverse, when it does it usually slams into reverse. So there is what is going on with the transmission. I do not know much about transmissions so I was hoping someone would have an idea what might be wrong with mine. I do have a good transmission guy to take it to(does the transmissions for Grave Digger). I was just hoping to maybe get some parts for him to save a little time. Thanks.
Check your fluid and filter, codes, make sure the tranny cooler isn't plugged, and the linkage is properly adjusted. Those are easy, no/low-cost checks. Go to fordfuelinjection.com to learn how to pull engine codes--there may be some that are affecting the shift strategy.
