Has anybody set up a nirous kit on a 97-03 5.4? What should i expect to do besides the kit? what size of shot is safe to run? Im looking to set it up on my 03 boss...
i havnt but dont get to crazy with it. i wuldnt run more than a 50 shot. maybe less. iwouldnt go more than 50. JUST DONT GO CRAZY WITH IT. and dont breath that stuff you'll get high!
I think NX recommends no more than 20hp per cylinder with a wet kit. I wouldn't go more than a 120 shot, wet. Dry probably more like 50hp.
Depending on how you want to use it, there are several additions that make kits very nice. If you are going to use it for several second passes, a bottle heater or blanket should be used. As gas is released from pressure the cylinder cools and the gas becomes more dense and you end up loosing pressure faster.
Purge solenoid, to blow moisture/debris from the lines before runs. Remote bottle opener, for when you want show off with having to get out and open the bottle. Blow off vent tube, Arm switch, throttle position switch, fuel pressure safety switch, air/fuel ratio guage. That's all I can remember.
100hp shot would be all that I go with....those motors have cast pistons and it wouldn't take much to damage them if you encounter detonation....
Make sure to use 93 octane gas and do some kind of tune to it for the nitrous (ie... make sure if you already have a programmer on it to take it out because too much timing advance will also be bad!)
The nitrous has turned out awesome! Im running around a 110 hp shot. Theres a local rd that a bunch of cars meet on to race and i lined up with one of the new eclipse spyders. By the end of the 1/4 mile i was a solid 4 cars head. I believe nitrous is addicting..

just please be careful + do'nt do it on the streets, it's alway some unsuspecting soul that get's hurt or killed! street's are for family's . race track's + offroad trail's are for playing with the big boy toy's
i was looking at setting up a wet kit but was wondering, would there be a milage limit to when you should put a nitrous kit on? i have about 80,000 on the 5.4L. Inquiring minds would like to know!
Not really, as long as you don't have oil coming out of the oil fill cap, it should be fine.
Nitrous is a very different animal than boost. Nitrous is a form of boost, however, it take engine heat to separate the oxygen out of the nitrous oxide. Your PCM isn't measuring the volume of N02 going into the cylinders, so you must compensate with fuel outside of the PCM. Boost from a supercharger or Turbo is metered and the PCM can meter the air coming in.
One big thing with nitrous on new fuel injected motors is the rev limiter. Either make sure you never hit it, or set up a cut off for the no2 because if you hit the rev limiter, it cuts off the fuel, and no2 without fuel is bad..........
