I was waiting to get through a 4 way stop this evening and stepped on the throttle and didn't move. The engine revved up, but it acted like I was in neutral. I shifted from drive to 2nd and low, but nothing. I shifted into 4 hi and low, but still nothing.
I put it in park and shut it off. When I restarted it, the tranny engaged just fine. I drove a few miles, then it acted like it was slipping. I shut it off and restarted, and again it ran fine until I got home.
I there a sensor or something that could be going out that lets the transmission know that it's supposed to be engaged?
Thank you in advance for any advice and suggestions.
Could it be a plugged filter? If so, why would it be fine after I restarted the engine?
It's possible. Only way is to drop the pan and see what's up.
If it is full of crud......., well it came from something and that something is most likely the friction material in the clutch packs.
Rebuild time.
If it is rebuild time, any suggestions as to whose kit to use and I also read something awhile back about the early '99 torque converters having problems?

Sorry, I don't know who has the best rebuild kit if you want to fix it yourself.
BTS makes the best transmission from what I've heard. Pricey but it's the last transmission you'll have to buy.
Just pulled the pan, and there is somethng that looks like a sea urchin growing over the drain plug.
Oil is dark and smells a little burnt.
I'm disappointed as I don't pull much weight (20' camp trailer in the summer and 4 place snowmachine trailer in the winter), had the fluid changed about 20K miles ago, and there is only 145K miles on it.
