I am checking my IC boots, and my right side intercooler boot has black oily sludge going up the pipe. Am i getting blow by, common for loose clamp? How tight should i really torque these clamps to so not to hurt the boots? And it has to be the one hardest to tighten Thanks guys.
get a 8inch extension and a 6in, and its pretty easy to get to now you are u by the battery, I tighten the crap out of mine , sounds like a ccv mod is due...
Before you go crazy, start by doing the CCV mod, it will get all that oily mess out of the intake and intercooler. After you do that you can clean the IC pipes and the boots and tighten them down snug.
Have you guys used guzzles method to mod the ccv? Is there any long term effects mechanicly from not venting the ccv gases back through the intercooler? Is the backpressure created by his mod enough to work on a stock idle at 800 or so rpms or performance wise/ pedal to the floor? Or do i need a chip to change it? Thanks
Removing and cleaning the intercooler boots is a cinch. Each one just has two clamps, you slide them off, clean them, then reinstall.
Not returning the ccv gases to the intake/intercooler (in other words, modding the stock setup) is better than leaving it as it is, as there's no need for oil in your intake other than to gum things up and rob the intercooler of efficiency.
I would personally route the gases to the atmosphere, although others prefer to use a catch or canister setup of some sort.
As im researching this mod it seams everyone has an oppinion on how it should be run and wether it should have the collector or not, and what type of hose I live in florida so im not worried about it freezing, but am conserned about the vaccum pressure is the any reason for alarm??? And could the coupler to replace the factory piece be made of plastic like others have used on the kwik mod for those with different size snorkel?
Gravity is our friend so as long as the hose goes down i could cut and vent where ever right?
I think you could use a plastic coupler in place of the stock ccv return, sure, but a piece of exhaust pipe would probably be better, as it'd be less susceptible to heat and such. Venting to the atmostphere shouldn't cause any issues with vacuum or pressure... it's using some sort of canister that can sometimes cause an issue by pressurizing the crank case, causing oil leaks. International makes the T444e (or at least used to? not sure if they still do) with a vent tube to the atmosphere, called a draft tube, and it just hangs down off the valve cover.
Yep, just avoid creating a low spot in the hose if you run it back along the truck, as oil will slowly build up and collect there over time. A clear hose is good for this, as you can see what's inside. A short run down like International does is probably the optimum setup.
