Just wondering what kind of mpg the dually owners get. Some of the SRW owners do pretty good. I'm getting around 12 at 65mph, but sure would like to get 19+ like some of the SRWs.
I got 15.5 on my last tank which I went about 600 miles on before stopping to fill up. It included a good amount of highway driving, some mountain climbing (went to Tahoe and back), and a bunch of romping around making smoke as much as I could out on some back roads.
I tend to get around 14-15 most tanks (which are usually more in-town than this last tank), and more like 12-13 if it's mostly in-town or lots of stop and go or accelerating, and if it's all highway more like 16+.
Duallies will always get less mpg than SRW trucks, on average.

You must like to live dangerous. Thats like 38 gallons. I get around 12-15 mpg with my truck. If I pull my trailer I get around 8-10.
Man...you guys are doing pretty good!! It also looks like all of you have performance chips, too. Mine is stock, but I'd sure like to get chipped...especially if it makes that much of a difference.
Mine is a manual 6-speed, too, which should help a little on mpg...maybe not?
I bought my dually used with 107,000 miles on it. I haven't done much work on it, other than changed oil and changed to a 6637 air cleaner mod. It runs great, so I haven't worried much about it. I need to take a look at my fuel fillter, though. I'll do that next. That may be why I'm not seeing the mileage all of you are. Or, maybe it's the chip.
Did any of you add your chip after driving for awhile stock and see a big change in mpg??
I get 14-15 normally on the highway... Maybe 16 if I take it easy.. 3.73s with 315's. Around 13 in town and around 10-11 pulling 9,000lbs. My bully dog programer helped a little but only on the lowest level of course... I can't stand getting passed so I normally don't run in the tow/econ mode....
99.5 w/4.10s 6spd around 13-14 driving to work in the mountains of east tn. a little less when hauling cattle. and ive not done the 6637 mod yet maybe that will help.
How do you calculate your mpg's? I'm new with my truck (1 year), and besides the lie o' meter and the filling up the tank and counting the miles, is there any other reasonable way to know how thirsty my truck is? (the computer said +/-19mpg highway, +/-17 city).
Thanks.

Nah, I normally don't let it get that low. I think I may filled up farther than I did the last time on this most recent fillup... I really trickled it in all the way to the cap, so I think I might've been able to go farther still. I normally try not to let it get below 1/4 tank, but this time and a couple others it's gone down pretty low. My overhead still said I had another 80 miles to go.
I've put in 40+ gallons once before, as have a number of other folks from reading their experiences... 40+ in a 38-gal tank, somehow.

I don't know of any way to calculate mileage other than dividing miles driven read from the odometer by the gallons it took to drive it read from the pump or receipt. My overhead tends to be about 3mpg over what I calculate, but they all vary and seems that all are always wrong, as well - just by varying amounts.

I haven't done much highway driving around here I'm getting between 13 and 15 completly dependant on how leadfooted I get . When I bought the truck I towed my 96 F250 home with it from OK. bone stock with a clogged K&N air filter I got 9 mpg running 70-75. I didn't stay stock long enough to check anything.
I have a 97 SRW And to answer your chip question I saw a 2-2.5 mpg increase with a 6 pos chip 100hp setting. 5sp tranny I get 16 daily driving, short hops, 18 highway, 15 towing car trailer with car 17,500 GVW, best ever on a tank of gas 21 through WY with a tailwind.
