My 2000 a sound?

If I put my key in and turn the key for just the lights to come on and such without cranking I hear a noise from the engine like air..Is this the tranny cooler or the super engine cooling? Its a 5.4 V8 4X4 2000 Lariate

Are you sure it's not the fuel pump? It makes a high pitched whine...

Thats the only thing I can think of. I always turn my key to the back (accessory) so the ignition and fuel pump dont run...

Atc - That could be the noise. It doesn't sound like a bad noise. I also turn it back for acc but I just allways noticed the sound when i turn the key a few clicks right before I crank it just sounds like air comes on in the engine.

I agree with ATC....try turning the key to ACC first...see if you hear it.

i think it's the air control in the cab....not sure what they call it, but is it the same sound you hear, with the truck off, if you switch from VENT to DEFROST or FLOOR?
that's what i'm thinking.

i think it's just the vacuum that runs the baffle (or whatever you call it) that makes the air come out in different places in the cab.

It's just air moving through the vacuum controls for the HVAC system.

Ignore it....
