Bonding requires sufficient overlap which may be hard to achieve all the way around with good metal. Welding isn't difficult, I just put in 1 1/2 of my taillights this weekend, look for a post topic and pictures likely later today.

I have done both types of patching. Bonding is an easy way to do some stuff, however, it is totally dependant on how clean you can prep the parts. I bonded the patch skins to the lower section of my doors because I was concerned about warping. I still did some welding when also replacing the lower door pan, but the bonding worked well.

The "Trucks" TV show replaced a lower rear cab corner on a Chevy P/U using bonding and showed how to make doublers inserted into the hole, then fit the patch. Looked easier than it really was to do.
