Bonding requires sufficient overlap which may be hard to achieve all the way around with good metal. Welding isn't difficult, I just put in 1 1/2 of my taillights this weekend, look for a post topic and pictures likely later today.
What about bonding? all the tacks and grinding and hammering and dolly work make me wonder if bonding wouldn't be faster and easier. What are the drawbacks to bonding?
I have done both types of patching. Bonding is an easy way to do some stuff, however, it is totally dependant on how clean you can prep the parts. I bonded the patch skins to the lower section of my doors because I was concerned about warping. I still did some welding when also replacing the lower door pan, but the bonding worked well. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=25135
The "Trucks" TV show replaced a lower rear cab corner on a Chevy P/U using bonding and showed how to make doublers inserted into the hole, then fit the patch. Looked easier than it really was to do.
