Small Cam?

Small Cam?
I"m building a 390 in my f100 2wd going with 4 barrel intake (cast), headers, port and polish heads, I realize that I should build compression(pistons) but not in the budget at this time so I'm thinking for a cam I would go with a small cam like 800 to 4800 XE252 so as not to lose any cylinder pressure I already have. I figure this should build good bottom end in my truck and be a tire burner. My question is what do you think of the cam idea?

I'm running a small stock cam and am very happy with it. The one i'm running is for a 290hp 2bbl Mercury motor. As a 2bbl with 10.5:1 it is supposed to make 290bhp at 4600 and 401ft*lbs at 2600. . .
It bleeds off hardly any cylinder pressure and depending on the compression you're running you won't see that big of losses over the numbers it makes with 10.5:1. What are you running, about 9:1?
