Hello My 97 4.2 4x4 has got the most annoying whirling sound all the time, nothing different while turning, not rough, not hard. Seems fine, but extremely loud. Any help would be appreciated
Mine does this too. I replaced a hose and then refilled the fluid. On older cars the pump would bleed themselves of air. I was told 2 things on this that could be the cause. I would need to vaccum bleed the pump and 2 add friction modifier /lube to the fluid in the resovoir.
I have not tried as of yet, but this may be a solution.
This has been a common complaint about f150, it seems to be normal on the fords, unless it becomes extremley loud or hard to steer I wouldnt worry about it. There have been people on this site that have replaced the pumps because of the noise and there was no change in noise with the new pump---with one person the new pump was louder than the old.
Hey thanks for the response, Ya I've heard that, it's been that way since I got it a year ago, but ya it's loud, I was wondering if it could possibly cause a drag on gas millage, that was my concern initially, regardless it's way to load, and possibly it's not even the pump I'm thinkinking it could be a pully. what do ya think guys
So im not the only one with atf in my power steering fluid i got it changed out and they said they put it in to quiet the whine and the dealers recommended as a 16 year old i didnt realize till after atf stand for transmission fluid thought it was an additive so its okay to run that for ps fluid
As for the whine its most likely normal all trucks did this most anyways i know 92-96 did it i dont hear it unless im not moving and turning the wheels
yeh I guess maybe flushing it to some exteme, next weekend I'm changing the serp belt, changing the idler pully, lower and top, and installing a new water pump, cause I'm there. possibly the pullys are screaming, but it's a process of elimination, I'll advise of my attempt's
