One of the "something else" things I've considered is a 3" diameter compass (one of the nautical ones that has the built-in compensated magnets). Who knows... that area is large enough to be potentially used for lots of creative things.
.

Pete, yes, you and are in the same boat, just not as much you, as me, thats why I've got 40/20/40 seats and not captains chairs.

I used to be in the boat buisness, in sales, and the riggers would always tell me that the marine Ritchie compass' would need extra sheilding if they were mounted near any sensitive electronic equip.(i.e. a radio, or in our case a GEM) just make sure if you do mount one there, or anywhere else on the dash, that you sheild it from interference. Being off a few degrees of bearing is not nearly as important in the truck as it is on open seas, but, well you get the pic.
Are you thinking something like this http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...001/149/137/14
or maybe this? http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...001/149/137/14

now, I am off to the fatmobile....

Dead on, Brandon. The second one with the bulkhead mount is what I've been considering. I've also had one guy sort of trying to pull me away from that approach and simply use a dash mount bracket for an inexpensive GPS unit, which wouldn't be a whole lot more money, and would be more flexible, but wouldn't look near as cool in the cab of my truck, either.

I used both sides of the steering column. Like what was said, I just shift my view a bit and see both meters clearly. I also love my Pioneer GPS that I custom installed into my dash. Very accurate and easy to read.

D@mn!!! That is exactly what I was thinking when I was sitting in my truck earlier looking for a place to put a couple extra gauges! Nice job.

I was thinking Voltage & Water Temp, since mine has no voltage gauge, and our temp gauge is just a switch...

Izzy,
You might check my gallery. The left side of the steering column hole was a real turd to do. Just take your time and keep test fitting so you don't have to take anymore of the sub-structure out than you have too. I've had it in quite a few months now with no problems. By the way I'm not the first to do this. Can't remember who advised me that it was do-able, before I cut the holes

BTW, great minds think alike. I didn't see that you had the voltage & water temp gauge in until I looked at your gallery. What did you use to cut the holes? Hole saw?

Yes it was a fine toothed 2" hole saw drilled at slow speed as to no melt or deform the plastic. The meters fit perfectly without any further cutting or sanding.
By the way the trimming of the sub-structure, which is the dashboard support frame, was not technically hard, just scary as hell to do...

What are those switches to the right of the pass side gauge doing? Just curious is all.

I've been thinking of putting 2 gauges where you have yours and then a third where you have those switches..... I have a 2WD so I have that nice blank square there doing nothing...

Oh, and F250_ ................ I don't need to bend my shift tube... I'm 6'7" so I can see that area just fine.... Just thought I'd give you a jab while everyone else was....

Ah sorry Pete... I guess we sort of hijacked your thread. It was all with good intentions though. I'll answer the last question, then I'll drop out of here. If need be we can start a new thread or carry on by PM. The switches are for audio mute for the stereo, power on for the DVD player and backup and forward facing camera's. After doing them, I don't care for the look, so I'm going to design an electronic controlled panel with LCD readout to replace the switches.
