Question A Question

When I came in tonight I came to ask 1 question now I have 2 questions.....

1st question ....... As I was waiting for the home page to load a sales banner was loading for Auto Media which is fine however there was one of those "other" so called trucks that sport a "Bow Tie" !!!!!
Is this not sacreligious ??

Now to my 2nd as well as my original question......

On my 06 250 SD there is a small (2" x 2") flat (1/2" thick) box on the windshield mounting bracket of the rear view mirror with a button (on the little box itself) on the top drivers side of it. The mirror is auto dimming, well in short the truck is loaded (due to being a Lariat) with almost all options with the exception of GPS, DVD, adjustable pedals and the auxilary switches (Of course I'm sure The King Ranch has a few options more on it). This includes the onboard LED read out of the engine and transmission status as well as the built in compass.

Saying all that ..... What is this little box ???
I thought maybe it woiuld be to reset the compass however when I push the button nothing happens .... I thought maybe if it was for the compas the display for the compass would at least flash or something.

Any Ideas?????

Is it an actual button or is the sensor for the mirror to determine when to dim? I've got an 03 King Ranch and I don't remember a box as you describe...I'll look at it when I go out for lunch today.

Its a small 2" x 2" flat box 1/2" or 3/4" thick with a button on the top of it. The button is on the side closest to the driver.
The mirror has 2 seperate wires coming from the wire harness for the dimming feature. The sensor for the mirror is in the center of the bottom of the mirror frame. Its a small photocell designed to detect light from behind the vehicle whereas the "little box" is behind the mirror connected to the rear view mirror glass mount.
I forgot to mention on the passenger side of this little box there is a plug coming from the same harness as the dimmer mirror. It looks like it has 4 wires in it. I didnt unplug it due to the fact im unsure what funtion it performs.

Never mind guys I figured it out. I finally got time to mess with it.
It was I had expected. It has to do with the on board compass.
Ya hold down the button for 10 seconds or so.
The on board display ill then instruct you to drive slowly in a tight circle to calibrate.
It will then, as you complete the circle, say calibration complete.

This does in fact answer the 2nd question I posed .......
However it does not answer the 1st one ....
Of course as th saying goes "Every dog has to have his day" so I suppose its a Chevy dog day hehehehe

If you JOIN FTE, you won't ever be bothered by those "BOW TIE" ads (or any others either) anymore. If you've seen or done something that you saw here that saved you 15 bucks, say "Thanks" and become a MEMBER.

I am a member. As well as a supporter.
It was just on the opening of the home page where I saw the dawg earred symbol. Just thought it funny a Ford based sight with an add sporting a Chevorlet.

I think someone on here mentioned that FTE doesn't really control who's ads show up, they just sell the space to an ad company who then puts up thier clients products.

Thanks, I'm loving the new truck too.

No the hood is not stock, it is a suncoast creations functional ram air hood. I had the dealer paint and install it before I accepted the truck, along with the DR 4.5" lift, MBRP exhaust, and Airraid intake. They guarantee my Ford warraty for the full 36/100k mileage with all these addons.
