im running dual 3 inch all the way from the headers to the dual 5 inch tail pipes, the engine is a 428scj (super cobra jet) multi port propane injected.it soundes real good and runs really strong.
The numbers would stay the same. The numbers are for racing applications so they show the numbers for circle track "full throttle" type applications. For other applications like towing take the numbers down one size like it says. In fact with a daily driver seeing mostly city traffic it would probably be advantageous to drop TWO sizes. Bigger is NOT better when it comes to exhaust systems or most other things on our trucks.
For 420HP dual pipe daily driver you would need 2.5" pipes. Straight pipes usually do not perform as well as running mufflers for some strange reason that I can't remember.
For good sound without killing your ears, waking the dead, or listening to the stereo try Magnaflow mufflers. They are much smoother at cruise speeds but growl real well when you open the throttle. Much better than Flowmasters which have an ugly harsh noise all the time.
Probably a toss-up then. I have seen a lot of guys disconnect their pipes at the header flange, shove them aside, then use one bolt and a strap to hold the pipes up for racing. That way they can run a decent pipe for the street.
