EVERY wage earner should know that their wages and benefits were originally bargained for by a union at some point in time. All wages of all jobs are in some way pegged to a union scale somewhere, somehow, sometime.

Do you get time-and-a-half? It didn't exist before unions won that. Yes it finally became law....after the fact.

Do you like having toilets and a break to be able to use it? Unions got all that for you years ago....before it became law.

All you people want to do is crap on the unions, but if you knew your history (that isn't taught anymore by the UNION TEACHERS), you'd know all this labor stuff.

But, ignorance is bliss.

Oh, by the way, I do shop there, begrudgingly. Their products are often sub-standard, their service is frequently non-existent when you need it, and the prices are not all that wonderful. Some are good, some not...average...just OK.

I agree that at one time unions at there place, but now? We have OSHA and other programs. Not to dump on unions. I also have a brother-in-law that is in the IBEW and I love there articles in there union magazine about hating Wal-Mart. You'd think that they could find something else to complain about. Like I said before I worked at a Wal-Mart in Raytown MO making $13.50 an hour and the guy working down the street at Kroger's (who is union) was making 9 or 10 an hour plus paying $80 a month in union dues.

Your point on union teachers is totally a different topic. It's hard to get a bad/lazy/apathetic teacher fired because he or she is protected by a union. There is something wrong with that.

One last thing- never buy temp. controlled food products from wally. Down here there is a walking of the store once a shift(every 6-12 hours) they round up all the goods that are out of place and throw them into a buggy, including food. It is then taken to customer service where it sits for another shift or two, then it is returned to it's proper location. This is a common practice.
I can vouch for this. You should see how much of the merchandise is returned becuase it's defective or missing part.

ETA:
Walmart has job openings all the time.
AKA high employee turnover. That should tell you something right there. The local Walmart turns over 20% of it's work force every 3 months.

I know the history of the unions. I went to school long ago when history class included the stories of unions in America. I believe they once were a good deal. I don't think they are needed now. Many companies offer better wages & benefits without unions now. My job does.

That is true about one stop place. Yes they are alittle high, but our Krogers is higher too..

I'm very curious about this statement.....

I don't know if you consider NC the "deep south".......

In every Wal-Mart I've been in, the vast majority of floor personnel (or at least a preponderance" have been "minorities"......(blacks, hispanics). The customer base that I've seen is pretty close to that......(maybe not as high, but still high)........How are they racist?........Are you basing this statement on the lawsuit about promoting managers?........

I don't grocery shop at Wal-Mart either, but I damn sure go there when I purchase camping stuff, or fishing stuff, or whatever........and when it's time to purchase my quarterly load of 10 t-shirts, 20 prs underwear, and bagloads of socks......ditto........Can't beat the prices....and Fruit-of-the-loom at Wal-Mart is just as good as Fruit-of-the-loom at any other place.....

You'd probably find a higher percentage of shoppers in Wal-Marts from the lower economic strata, because they get more bang for their buck there.......Would you deny them this because you might not like their non-union status or high number of entry-level jobs?...........

I completely agree!!!!!!!!!! They were once needed but now, They simply prolong business transactions and cost their members work trying to pinch out a meaningless topic.

About the "great american success story". Yes it is, but since Sam's passing the company has lost it's core value- customer first.

About racisim- They employ anyone. Next time your there take a break from staring at the rollback signs and watch who is working and who is wasting time. And the ones wasting time- never is there a word said to them. But if the workers do something wrong they get their heads chewed off by a CSM.

Home depot and lowes are large stores but, HD is an Atlanta company and Lowes is a North Carolina company. I cannot be mad at them yet because They both picked a spot of land near me that had structure on it and tore it down and built their stores. Also I only have one of each of these stores in my area, not four like wally. They know if they offer a good product the customer will come to them. Wally feels the need to offer crap and take it to the customers door step. It's called mass sight. The more of us they see the more tempted they'll be to stop. Why do you think casino's rent fifteen billboards one after the other on the highway near them..............so you'll stop and give them the $20 bucks in your pocket.

Wal-mart is not the enemy. So many hate stories in the media, and then everyone hates them. I notice that a lot of people on truck and car boards say they buy their oil and filters from "Wally World", because the price is good.

there definately not racist, actually with the amount of employees that are employed at walmart i dare say they have one of the highest minority hirings in the u.s.

unfortunately i gave two years of my life working for them in college, i didnt hate wally world just hated retail working on the floor. when i moved into loss prevention it got better.
