but im not like most kids ... my mama and daddy didnt pay for my truck or the stuff thats on it ... i payed it myself ...
I would have to agree with you on that....most of these kids these days want something for nothing and their mommy and daddy have to buy it for them to keep em from rebelling then they flaunt the nice thing they have like they busted their a$$ to get it......not me either....i bought and paid for my ford and busted my fingers and put alot of time effort and money into that truck, it's got a lot of sentimental value and if i lost it i would probably be very depressed....i would say it's like my first child, you made it happen so you wanna cherish it for the rest of yer life.
yep yer rite ... just like one of my buddys had a nice 2004 Silverado ..lifted .35s . 350 vortec . system . and a bunch of other mess ...well he flipped it like a month ago and his parents & grandaddy went and bought him a Avalanche with like some 22" rims on it and all kinds of stuff ... the way i see it this boy is never gonna know wat it means to work for sumthin ...
What a *******....and i mean no disrespect and i don't know the guy but, god bless his heart but that goes to show he has no responsibilities...he'll learn the hard way one day when they're not around.

Hell yeah, folks appriciate things more when they have to bust their @$$ for it. I've got plenty of new scars and plenty of debt from my rig (and past vehicles), but that makes you love them even more.
Unfortunately, my son is a prime example. He's a great kid, doesn't get in trouble, but does not appreciate the things he has (sounds like me when I was his age). We did a father son project on an 86 F150 4X4 that I've had for 15 years. Replaced the fenders, sanded the whole body, removed the EFI 302 and replaced with a .040 over 351W, GT40P heads, comp cams 270H, crane roller rockers, Demon 725 carb and Mac coated headers. Lifted the truck 6" and installed 35" Pro Comp mud tires on Eagle polished aluminum wheels, new true duals with Flowmaster 40 series mufflers with 4" stainless tips and we painted it ourselves (Metallic Blue Pearlcoat, Chrysler PT Cruiser color). I installed the Boss 351 decals on both fenders (his request) and shot 5 coats of clear over everything and installed all new lenses on every light. It turned out better than I ever imangined. That was 7 months ago. Since then, he has destroyed the tailgate when a ****** stap broke, stuffed the front tires into the fenders jumping a hill (denting both new fenders), ripped the front shock bushings completely through the frame and cracked the frame where the steering box bolts to it. The restoration was all on my dime, maybe that was my mistake?. I don't know whether to scream or cry when I look at his truck now?. I keep telling him I'm not touching it again, but it's killing me to look at it in it's current condition. Although it's not a 73 - 79, I included a link for those who would like to see what it looked like 7 months ago. I don't have a picture of the truck with the new glass and bumpers installed.
Title is in my name. I know I can take it away at any time, only problem is that puts a burden my wife to get him to school, and to work. I was thinking of taking it away (he says it's his chick magnet!) and getting him a rusted out primered 1979 toyota celica for transportation!. What do you think?

DO IT! Don't let that truck suffer any longer!
Reading about all the work you put into sounds like what my dream truck would be! It looks great in those pictures. Can't beleive someone could own a truck like that and and abuse it so badly. ARRGH! Teenagers!
Replace it with either an old Yota or an old VW Bug. Either of those will MAKE someone appriciate that V8 they no longer have, and niether is anywhere close a to chick magnet (unless you like those hairy hippy broads...)
flcraker you should take that truck from him until he can learn some respect, and put his own money, blood, sweat, tears, and hard work into it. You can't just hand him stuff like that and expect for him to screw it up and not have any respect about the work that was put into it. I think you should make him earn the car that you are going to get him for transportation. He can't go thru life havin everything handed to him, he needs to learn the hard way just like the man that he will have to once be...just my advice...good luck.
man thats a good lookin truck flcracker ... i would never treat my truck like that ...and jumpin it was a real stupid idea ... TAKE IT AWAY FROM HIM !!!
Amen my friend...i like the beefy look of all these newer fords believe you me, but i wouldn't ever trade, sell, or give away my ford, for one of those darn newer rigs...computers are for yer house and fte....not for a truck. anyone agree?

Couldn't have been written truer than that.
I'm really not a fan of the newer trucks, just don't like the look of them after the mid 90s (when they were still more squared).
I'm hoping Ford decides to go the same route they went with the new Mustangs, and start making the trucks look a little more like the classic rigs. I was suprised when I saw that the Explorer is a truck varient again, and no longer an SUV (it also had tiedowns that looked close to the 73-79 factory style). Seems like they've started heading in the right direction...
